Will an LSi storage tray fit in an L?
To save a few 1000 $, I chose to get an L model instead of an LSi. But I always liked the idea of the storage tray under the passenger seat (since the glovebox couldn't hold much more than a few maps).
So will a tray from a junked LSi dock under an L's passenger seat, or does the LSi's seat have extra rails for the tray? Oh, and does the tray have a key lock? BTW, when you read the Japanese sites through the Babelfish translater (http://babel.altavista.com/), "passenger seat" comes out as "suicide seat"! I wonder why that is?

Now that I've taken a closer look, I see absolutely no attachment points for a tray under my passenger seat. I also took a longer look at SubaruParts.com and see that the LSi has a different part number than the L and LS for the seat "Frame & spring assembly-front,right". It looks like the LSi seat frame has additional rails for the tray. I did find out from wawazat (thanks!) that there is no key lock. So has anyone else successfully "transplanted" a storage tray from an LSi to an L? If so, what part(s) besides the tray did it require?

Having just tried to install an under seat tray from a LSi in my L, I can tell you that it can't be done using the stock L passenger seat. There are no attachment points on the stock L seat frame to which to attach the tray.
I had assumed that there was no way that Subaru would actually use two different seat frames in LSi and L models (I suppose on the theory that those types of differences would not be worth any associated increased production costs), but it looks like I was wrong . . . No
I have an L model and my original cloth passenger seat would not accept the undertray. I upgraded to the leather seats and compared the two: the frame is different.

I put paper tows(good for checking oil), kleenexes, and a quart of oil in that thing. And then one day it was so hot the plastic motor oil bottle exploded, but luckly I had a mess of paper products to soak up most of it.....)
Always looking for a new set of grey mats
