1992 SVX for sale

I have a 1992 SVX for sale. I'm located in Yardley, PA.

Pictures at http://www.discordia.org/~jason/svxpics
Yeah, I know, it needs a wash.

Basic information and good news:

174000 miles. Black. AWD. Transmission was replaced in 2000. Water pump was replaced in 2003. The radiator was replaced in 2002. Power steering pump and rear wheel bearings replaced in 1999. Has an underdrive pulley from Unorthodox Racing (because the original pulley failed, and it was less expensive and faster to get a pulley from Unorthodox Racing, not because I race the car). All regular maintenance (oil change, timing belt, etc... ) done on schedule. The tires are Toyo Proxy FZ4s in good condition, all purchased and put on at the same time. Included is a full service manual set. The car is in basically good shape and everything works great (including air conditioning) except....

The bad news:

I believe the car may have a slight head gasket leak. They symptom is that if its hot outside (85+ degrees), after driving on the highway for a long time and then getting stuck in stop and go traffic, sometimes the engine temperature will rise higher than it should. While normally the temperature gauge stays at just below half way, when things get funny it will quickly swing up to 2/3 or 3/4 of the way to red, then quickly swing back down and generally bounce around as if there is air in the cooling system. Also, one in a while, only on hot days, after driving the car for a while there will be a little bubbling into the overflow tank, even though the engine temperature has been perfect. The cooling fans are coming on when they're supposed to and like I mentioned above, the water pump and radiator are fairly new. I can't find any leaks in the cooling system. The car has NEVER overheated. I'd be positive its a head gasket leak except that the problem only seems to happen when its hot out, which I find a little strange.

Oh, and, as you can see in the pictures, its missing one hub cap.

So, why am I selling the car? It's reached the age where it needs some TLC to keep it running. While I generally don't mind that, this is the car my wife uses, and my car is even older. We decided we should have at least one "new" car in the family, so its time for the SVX to go. Otherwise I'd pull the heads off myself and take a look.

I figure at worst case its a really good parts car, and best case someone with mechanical ability could replace the head gaskets themselves and end up with a nice car for not much money.

I'd like to get at least $1500.

- Jason

Nope. The car hasn't sold yet. I'll post here when it does.

It'd like to sell it by the end of the month. I pick up a new car the beginning of next month, and I want to use the money to supplement the down payment. If I still have the SVX by then I may just trade it in to the dealer.

The DeLorean is mine. Thats the car I'm keeping instead of the SVX.

Of course, selling the SVX means I'm breaking up my Giorgetto Giugiaro collection and won't have two cars with funky windows anymore, but oh well.

Yep.

You would have to watch the temperature gauge, especially if you ended up stuck in traffic, just in case it started to its thing, but otherwise it should be fine.

Last summer (it had the problem back then as well), I drove it from Philadelphia to Toronto and back. Only issue was that while stuck at the border crossing the temperature gauge started to do its little dance, so I just shut off the engine while waiting.
