Spark Plugs
Hi all quick question, i when to a local auto parts and picked up plugs for the new car, all new vehicles i get the first thing i do is change oil and plugs.
The ones he sold me were NGK G-Power BKR6EGP , i went to change them last night and the ones in the car look new , but they are PFR5B11 , and so i checked SVX.net and the suggested plug is PFR6B-11 . Is the 5B ok, are the BKR6EGP ok to keep and use, should i get 6B-11's Thanks C |

The BKR6EGP platinum is one of the plugs the NGK website calls for. The PFR6B-11 is the laser platinum version. The PFR5B-11 is a one step hotter plug. Did the plugs that came out look like they were ok? What was the color and wear like?

I put the PFR6B-11 in mine and all was well. I figured that if I was spending ten bucks on a plug then what was another buck a plug. you don't want to have to have to change the plugs too often as they are a hassle to do, but if yours look fine and the car runs fine then why not put them back in?

I also just installed the BKR6EGP and they work fine, the only difference I saw between then and the 6B-11 is the platinum lead is longer and doesnt have as much porcelain extending toward the electrode.
On a side note, I was pleasantly surprised how easy doing the plugs was! I had kept my new plugs in the box for 6 weeks in fear of how frustrating it would be.... I started with the drivers rear to get it over with and it wasnt so bad at all. The total job took a little over an hour including removal of the battery box and intake. So if you are procrastinating, get it over with already My passenger rear coil was oil soaked at the plug contact and that plug was the only one with any deposits.... now the car idles silky smooth, yay !! |

I'm running Bosch +4's, they have been fine for 50k miles. Any thoughts on the NGK 3764 Iridium IX or the Bosch BS4503 IR Fusion? The price on these two is very low from Rockauto.

As posted by another already...the pfr5b-11 are the same plugs as factory except 1 step hotter. They are a superior plug to the ones you just bought. The step hotter is presumably because the car is old and compression is assumed to be quite a bit lower than it was new--probably a correct assumption. Those plugs will stay clean at idle on the old engine. I'd leave them in and return the plugs you just bought. They are rated for 100,000 miles before needing a change.
