Question chenged oil, now reads too full

I had my 92 svx up on the ramps yesterday and changed the oil and filter. Put 6 quarts in, backed off the ramps and filled up to a bit below the full mark. One day later (today) I rechecked the level (to make sure I don't have any leaks etc) and found the engine oil level now reads about 1/4 inch ABOVE the full mark. Silly quesiton, but should I let some out? That just seems like a pain and a real mess. Will the metal gasket that comes along with the OEM filter still work if I loosen the pan drain plug to let some oil out and then re-tighten? How bad is it to have this much more oil in?

Thanks
