Exclamation A Note about benebob

benebob has been banned for 3 weeks. The reason for this is disobeying the rules by baiting other user(s) repeatedly and not following the requests of the Admin Staff.

If any of you still need to be able to contact him and do not have his contact info, please let us know, we will get you what we can.

I will leave this thread open for now. But the very FIRST inappropriate response we see will get it locked, and posts removed.

Please note the rules outlined here.

We take these rules very seriously. With that we expect you all to conduct yourself as adults. This may be a free Country, but this forum is private, and if you break our rules, you will feel the consequences.

And with that... Nothing to see here, move along.

so budfreak has gone from being permenantly banned to now a three week ban?

I've been following this drama and just want to make sure, b/c it seems that the admin staff is uncertain as to what to do in this situation with the continually changing punishments...

Now I am not an admin or a mod but here is how I see it.

Ben got banned because of the crap he posted... He broke the rules and got a temp ban for the 1st time

Budfreak got banned perminantly because this is not the first time he went out of control. I am sure he was warned the first time and this time he just went over the line.

Either way it sucks eggs on both ends

And he has been given a time out before as well. When asked to just leave it alone, he would not and would not back down.

Yes Tom, you basically got it right. In my years of forum experience, everybody gets at least one or two "timeouts" before they get hit by the permaban stick.

Repeat offenders get hit the hardest.

Tact is required. The point is not to try to get a person to back down, because in all honesty you have no right to do so. Any person must be given the opportunity to retain their perceived dignity within an open forum. You must/should prove/pursuade that they are in error, particularly not in the context of the facts presented, but by way of the way they have presented their case.

It is here that members in general can/should assist in troublesome arguments, by inserting wise comment, rather than by inflating the issue.

It really does suck, for everyone involved.

We would really be much more happy if we didnt have to deal with this stuff and could concentrate on keeping the community up and running.

Damn... these two threads are like crack... sorry to keep dragging this out but this needs to be cleared up...

This is NOT Jasons first time doing something like this... Infact it is not Jason's 5th time of obviously breaking the rules of this message board. Ben on the other hand, may be hot headed, has not overstepped the lines of the board on so many occasions on so many different topics.

I'm sorry you see things that way Lee, and I have no way of knowing how much of the background antagonism you have read or kept up with.

The general situation we had to deal with was one of personal animosity between two or more members. Warnings were issued that the tone of the posts [plus the tone of signatures!! ] was way out of line with Network rules.

So far out of line we were aware of members leaving the forum because they were fed up with the constant aggravation.

The posting rules thread is stickied, and everybody posting here is supposed to know what the few rules are and observe them. The Mods consider this an adult forum, and so we apply a hands-off approach on account of this, letting members push the boundaries and express their opinions in a robust or in a jocose fashion all the time.

Until it degrades to insults and name calling and veiled threats that is, then we advise and warn.

In this situation the limited sanctions available to us were applied in sequence.

Warnings were given.

Time out was given

[multiple repeat behaviour after time-out=> ]

Permanent ban is effected.

Exactly as outlined in Infractions of the Rules.

And yes, this does also imply that Benebob will qualify for a permanent ban if he comes back and consistently breaks the rules after his time-out, just as happened with Jason.

Nobody pays me for being a Moderator, and I accepted the position when asked because I knew I was dealing with a large number of people I like who behave responsibly. I have better things to be doing with my time than constantly, constantly and repeatedly warning and advising aggressive posters they are breaking the rules.

Hopefully this discussion will mean that warnings will be taken seriously in future, we will have less aggressive and insulting posts, and we Mods can all go home because there is nobody to ban.

Joe

so then it is ok to have one member try and set off another member knowing one might get permantly banned in this proceeding? It is like an instagator instagating a problem and making it worse.. an instagator is the one who predicts an outcome for himself... in this out come i feel deprived..

despise ones remarks, one battles another member and gets that member banned permantely. it seems ok for one to set off anotha but when someone pisses off someone who has already been warned, it seems like more then one is trying to get 1 banned...

I have pretty well kept up with it for a long time. I do agree that Jason stepped over the line in his REACTIONS. However, I have seen repeated sniping at his mechanical expertise and attempts at doing business. That is hitting a man where he lives and makes money. To me that is MUCH more serious than overracting to the initial and repeated insults. As near as I can tell, the snide comments on his mechanical expertise are unsupported. AND, IF as Jason alleges, certain parties were actually contacting his customers bad mouthing him---that should be strongly considered as grounds for banning. Again--I question the balance on the scales.
