To hark back to the issues of VINs I want to add some extra detail on that.

The Applied Model Code, the AMC, while it is a very good birth certificate giving detail of the intended market, the year, and trim/options/equipment, this information alone is not enough for the Registry. I'll explain why.

The VIN number is unique to each vehicle. However, because there were a number of production sequences, then we will find in fact that there is more than one SVX carrying the identifier CXW-002345 for example. There is probably one of these in the US, one in Japan, one in Australia and probably one in Europe. For the Network to register a car and uniquely identify it as being a vehicle "known to the SVX World Network" we need the whole VIN to keep this record in place.

A long time ago I myself voiced the same view that it was unsafe to publish full VINs. Most pooh poohed the idea, but some are as paranoid as me about it.

The Registration database, the main spreadsheet with all these records on board, that record is absolutely confidential and the Network will never publish or distribute this record because we have to remain within data protection guidelines for all legislations where owners reside. This is an onerous responsibility but we abide by it for the protection of our members.

The rationale for Registration is obvious; the Network can provide members with documentation that their vehicle is a "known" vehicle to the SVX club, and this documentation is an aid to verifying that the car is cherished and is worthy of classic or collectible status.

Joe
Joe,

I added this line into the form above, the same form updated on my 02 registration page:
VIN CODE: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx**
Would the VIN, absent the last two digits for those wishing to withhold, would that be enough VIN data for data analysis?

As for confidential, when I download pdf files for 92, 93, etc., the complete VIN is there, and if not there, the production number, which is enough information to complete a VIN for any given model year.

I added a bunch of data request lines, hoping that we would have enough information to really compare the vehicles.

Please review for any additions. I'll put as much energy into this as I can.

In most cases we listed the production number Ron, as it gives a clue to production date.

Regards the VINs on the pdfs, it will be the case that those members were happy to publish the full VIN. We offered the option to partially or completely hide the VIN in lists if that is what the owners wanted.

We will look at this again. Any lists we do have will never show the owner's name or address or telephone.

Thanks for pointing that out.

CXW*K*E: RHD; United Kingdom
CXW*L*E: LHD; EURO [France, Swiss, Paraguay, Levant (Lebanon)]
CXW*U*E: RHD; [AU, NZ]
CXW*Y*E: LHD; North America [US, CDN]
Okay, back to the task at hand ,
Re-evaluation of link by Phil, with current observations:

Example: CXDA25E [JDM VERSION-L 4WS]

Digit 1, ‘C’ reveals the series name: SVX

Digit 2, ‘X’ is the base type of the body: SAFETY VEHICLE X

Digit 3, ‘D’ reveals drive system: D=4WS/4WD, W=4WD, V=2WD

Digit 4, ‘A’ is annual refurbishment, will change each time a minor change: ABCDEF; A=92, B=93, C=94, D=95, E=96, F=97

Digit 5, ‘2’ is number of doors Japan home market: LETTERS SUBSTITUTED for EXPORT MARKETS

Digit 6, ‘5’ reveals grade: high-grade=larger number; Graded by Subaru as to STD ‘luxury’ content
[my conclusion, the SVX is known as a personal 'luxury' touring coupe]

Digit 7, ‘E’ reveals Electronic transmission: E 4AT DOHC 24V [??] [SilverSpear’s GCC examples does not follow, special-orders?] *In light of SilverSpear's Applied Model Codes, I still lean toward E= EMISSION/ NON-E

GRADING LOOKS TO BE BASED ON STANDARD EQUIPMENT

GRADE 0: NOT GRADED

GRADE 2: VLSD delete
Sample: JDM-S3

GRADE 3:
Sample: JDM-Version-E, S40, S40II, S4

GRADE 5: ABS, CRUISE CONTROL, LEATHER
Sample: JDM-Version-L

GRADE 7: ABS, CRUISE CONTROL, LEATHER, AIRBAG, SUNROOF
Sample: US-LS-L/ LSi, UK, AU, EURO, etc.

* Grade ‘7’ with VTD ranks higher than a ‘7’ with ACT, glass lamps rank above plastic lamps, etc.

Soon, it will be time for US to grade and rank the ‘7E’ models around the world, each to each .

Re: Svx Models, How Many Produced?

I will take care of the VINs in the past listings, but I still can not find any personal information that is contained in a VIN. If you go to the How-To docs and look in the SVX Informaiton forum, and then look up VIN Codes, it shows what the VIN means. It is not much different than the AMC except it shows the order of manufacture.

The S40ii model has a dark grey interior, similar to the US L model (so I'm told). Acutally it's the woodgrain trim but covered with grey paint.

Everything inside an S40ii is grey. I'm just glad mine is emerald on the outside and not grey there also.

The TCU is directly under the dash, in front of the driver. It has a bracket that surrounds the ECU, Engine computer. The ECU plugs are down, the TCU plugs come out of the TCU facing to the center of the car. The letters on on the outside, big letters, the outside of the case the farthest forward surface, and may be hard to see without a mirror.
Finally i was able to write down the numbers using a mirror.

For the fuse cover, i forgot to read the letter, but i think is "E", i will check tonight.

Thanks MadMaxSVX That information is a big help, as your Model SVX, a Euro-type model with Power Mode button, is certainly new here.

Phil, there's another MODEL SVX TCU for you!, I knew you would be interested since it was factory programmed for a Power Mode Button

It's likely a UK/Euro/AU style transmission, programmed with Power Mode Button by Subaru Perhaps the TCU is more similar to a JDM TCU programmed for the Euro-style speed sensor?

I'll leave it to you and MadMaxSVX to sort that out, have fun

E, that's terrific , the fuse cover helps to understand the various SVX MODELS. Please confirm if E, confirm written in English?, confirm whether a fuse reads: FWD, or DIFF LOCK?

EDIT: CONFIRMED AS 'C'

Could you post a picture of the fuse cover in this thread as well?

THE FUSE COVER INDICATES MAJOR DIFFERENCES IN SPEC, IE, DIFFERENT SVX MODELS, the question of this thread "How many Different Models".

So far, here is the list of the FOUR fuse covers that I have documented,,,,
possibly IN ORDER OF INTIAL PRODUCTION SCHEDULE :

A- US/CDN cover: FWD fuse
B- JDM: In Japanese, DIFF LOCK, 4WS
C- AU/PARAGUAY model: DIFF LOCK,
D- UK-model, DIFF LOCK, more amps for headlight washers and tilt motors
