Unhappy stupid front axles ...

hi there!
i dont talk here to much because it's pretty hard for me to speak in english.
but i read a lot, i have no problem to understand.
so, i continue to upgrade and repair my 96 SVX euro version.
it's pretty hard to find this car in france and hard to find parts too.
but i have notice my front axles making noises and boots are in realy bad conditions.
" anyway, time to change it! "
but it was the start of the problem.
unfindable in any car parts seller.
" to bad, but no problems, let's check to subaru dealer! "
that was an another bad idea.
" zero in stock, and 780€ ( near 1.055 $ ) each "
OMG!!! they kinding me!!!
not sure to have it and the half price of the car!!!

i 'm under thinking about let this car down and change it.

the last chance i have is an axle repairer in france.
he can repair axles by changing worn parts.
i gonna remove the axles from the car and send to it to tell me if he can repair it or not.
if he can't, there's no way to repair this poor car.
thats so sad, leave a car down just because not find parts to repair it ...

anyway, if i remove the front axles, did the transmition fluid comes out?
see ya

No trans fluid will come out. There is a pin that holds the axle to the trans.

Might be able to find an axle over here in the states shipping would be costly though.

Re: stupid front axles ...

To bad you don't have an Autozone in France.

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...&parentId=12-0

You will not lose transmission fluid. The axleshafts are in the differential which a some oil. If you remove ONLY the axleshaft by removing the spring pin holding it in and not the stub axle, you will not lose any kind of fluid.

Re: stupid front axles ...

Naru, you should be able to find axles easily in America and have them shipped to you to France. Shipping alone should amount to $200 max if through USPS. They should arrive in a matter of 10 days or so.

Instead of paying $1000 per axle, you would be able to have everything to your door for $400 max including shipping.

The guys on this forum should be able to help you out.

Re: stupid front axles ...

I just did a quick check on prices and shipping. You could easily have both axles ($75 each) and shipping (about $150 guessing on weight) for close to $300 USD.

Let me know if you want me to help you out with this.

Re: stupid front axles ...

thanks for all of your respond.
i haven't find some US car parts dealer sending to france.
i have find somes crappy ones on ebay, but why change it for the same shape?

one question : did you have it in standard exchange or buy it and keep the old ones?

anyway, hocrest, i'm realy interested by your help.
theses parts are INFINDABLE in france.
so even if i pay 300$ to have it, it's a good deal!
let me know! thanks!

I believe when you buy the axles from the auto parts store here, you don't need to exchange your old ones at all.
Having someone here go and buy axles, and then shipping them to you is definitely a great idea and much cheaper of course. I have already helped out members in Australia with getting parts from here in the US and shipping the parts to them as the parts in Australia are also much more expensive.

If "Hocrest" would like to help as he originally said, he can.
If he is not able to, I would be able to help.

no core. Either that or I have a bad cv axle sitting in the garage that would love to be used as a core.

the FWD and AWD axles are actually very similar and both are able to be used. The FWD one is actually made stronger.

As Joe and Danny are saying in your other thread you have. We will have to make sure your axles are actually bad and it is not your differential.

Re: stupid front axles ...

i'm sure it's the axles.
i'll make a video if you want!

anyway, whats the syptom of dead front diferential?

and you said FWD axles are stronger than AWD ones.
and it's interchangeable? both can fit?
so why dont always change front axles by FWD ones?
thanks!

Re: stupid front axles ...

The end of the front axle that goes into the differential is interchangeable with the Legacy if I remember correctly. That may be of interest depending upon what the problem is.
