paper-tagged the SVX yesterday

Got 60 days to 'convince' the Md MVA that our cars are a 'limited' production car that has not been produced for over 11 years.(Before the paper tag expires)
That will allow me to bolt a 'HISTORIC' tag on her!!
I need STATS!! Copy and paste what you got, plus I will be sending out my check to Earl for a 'certificate'.

OT stopped out and put a new 'knock sensor' in her last nite. The ride home was a LOT more fun than the last time I drove her!

Now I gotta make her 'shiny' so J.C. Taylor will write the insurance.

Re: paper-tagged the SVX yesterday

good luck, I don't know if in my state that would work, vehicle has to be over 30 years old, I think, before a Historic tag can even be considered.

Re: paper-tagged the SVX yesterday

Historic = Antique plates???

My NH DMV will let me do it once its 20 yrs old. IDK if I want to tho b/c there are alot of restrictions on an antique plate. Mine is a garage queen, but I dont want milage restrictions for some reason.

Must be the 'live free or die' in me.

I live in MD and I believe the car has to be at least 20 years old for antique plates. There are also a number of restrictions on use of the car If you look at the MVA form for antique plates on their website you'll see the requirements.

Talked to MVA on wed. THEY said, that if I 'prove' that the car has been out of production for over 11 years, they WILL issue the plates!
I don't really care all that much about mileage restrictions since I have (2) Outbacks and (2) trucks 'hard tagged', plus the VW Rabbit Diesel 'historic' tagged.
The V-Dub gives over 45 mpg and I only put 1,000 miles on it per year.

Parades, shows, club functions, weekends, holidays, service or occasional use. The annual mileage allowed is 2,000, but only your insurance company will ask.
If you carry 'real' insurance and historic tags, you will be OK.
I have done that too.
If you use the car to 'commute' everyday, the cops will nail you.
If you take the family out for ice cream, they will NEVER ask!
I had an Austin Healey added when it was only 12 years old.
A lot of the guys around here are putting 'historic' tags on JUNK and using it every day, sometimes to haul 'stuff'. They never wash them and use them up, then run them over the scales at the press.
I keep my FARM trucks cleaner than they do their' historic' vehicles.
My firewood GMC got a bath the last time I hauled coal!
It has a few scratches and spots, but it shines and the fenders are not flapping.
I could 'historic' tag it but I couldn't haul coal of firewood anymore.
Right now, my WORST car ,(tagged), is the SVX. It has ugly gray primer on the sides! (But it is clean and all the lights work)
I do have the paint, but it ain't ready yet.
The wife and I had SVX all over 3 towns today!
(It was FUN)

I GOT A RED BADGE!!!
I also mailed the check for one of them 'pretty' certificates!
Check your mailbox in a couple days, Earl!!
I included everything but my 'name' on the site. As far as any 'letters' attatched, None. It don't even say Subaru unless you look at the wheels.

(If that check ain't no good, let me know, I'll write another one JUST LIKE IT!!)

Talked to JC Taylor Insurance today!! They WILL write the SVX as a 'Classic' as soon as I get a 'Historic' tag on it! Without the tag, they will write it in October.
They want a 'copy' of Earl's SVX 'certificate' for their files! Then, when an SVXer calls, they KNOW that it is a Boni-fied , certified Classic!
Md DMV is waiting for a 'copy' of Earl's certificate so they will give me the Historic tag. Then ALL SVX cars will be added to the 'list' of out of production 'collector' cars State wide!
J C Taylor will require a color pic and shiney paint. The car has to be stashed in a locked garage, except when you are playing with it.
Ya GOTTA have another 'driver', or they won't write you.
It has to be insured for over $3,500. FULL coverage, NO deductable.
They offer coverage in ALL states!
My YEARLY premium is $68.!!!

Re: paper-tagged the SVX yesterday

Another benefit of historic tags in maryland is that you don't have to do the tailpipe inspection. My '88 Bronco has historic tags and only takes trips to the dump and to haul fence posts and rails!!

JC will write the insurance without the 'historic' tag after I get things moving. I just gotta 'prove' it to Md, then the door opens. Be patient...I'm still working on this.....
