Re: Where is vin 001?

YT would be able to tell you the whole story on this

For quite a while, om a cold start I would get a momentary rattle from the engine on startup, which immesiately went away. For a while we assumed ir was a lifter which wasn't holding pressure. Not a big deal as the sound immesiately went away and all was fine.

It wasn't until we took the engine apart to do the head gaskets that we found symptoms of a strange oiling problem. He tore it down further and thats when he found that the bearings were mostly worn away.

I am not sure of the particulars, but YT could tell you exactly what he thinks. Had the head gasket never come up, the bearings may have lasted about 25,000-30,000 more miles before failing completely.

Seems like less oiling = more friction =more heat generated and less power due to friction. Have to give it more gas to overcome this, which starts things in a vicious cycle.

From the way my new engine performs, I think I was only getting about 80% of the power available in the old engine.

Re: Where is vin 001?

Either too tight or just a lack of oil... And it was the rod bearings not the mains... Cylinder walls had strange scoring that I have not seen on any other EG33 either... The skirts were also worn hence the cyl wall issues. Not a typical situation by any means

My 95 also had a rattle on startup that went away after about a second. I wonder if this was a similar problem.

Re: Where is vin 001?

Mine did not always do it, or I would have addressed it earlier; probably started at around 100,000 miles.

How many miles were on your car, Mike? Could it have been a quality control issue with a small percentage of engine assembly? It's odd that the only two cases I know about are my 96 and your 95

My manufacture date was 11/95

My SVX had about 160,000 on it when i sold it, if I recall, and it started doing it at about 130,000 miles. These are approximate numbers as this was a while ago.
