Got a windshield scare today

While driving my SVX on Rt 83 N a big chunk of snow/ice fell off a vehicle driving above me on the overpass and slammed right into my windshield. It happened so quick and was so loud, that is just scared the bejesus out of me. My 1st though was Oh **** there goes my windshield! But luckily it seems ok, no cracks, just a tiny rough spot in the glass and a tiny ding in the hood. It also pushed the resting place of my drivers side wiper way up into the middle of windshield but I just had to push it back down into place.

I feel like I got away with one today, people have died from stuff like this.

Sean you do have glass insurance right? If not get it covered tonight! If your insurance won't offer glass insurance (or comprehensive) find a new insurer.

As for the wiper. Do not do that again brother! Subarus wipers (like most cars) are barbed to fit into the male barbs on the motor stalk mechanism. Repeated movement by not removing the nut and the wiper arm will lead to the grinding down of these barbs. Then your motor will turn but your arm won't! Only good fix is not a pretty or cheap one!

As for the ice chunk. Its a$#holes like that who cost me money as I'd be riding my cycle to work right now, if it weren't for the lazy pigs who don't clean their cars of as is the law ($200 fine for the first offense in PA). At least you could've enjoyed your dirt nap knowing that if caught the offending car driver could have been charged with manslaughter for their laziness. Doesn't help does it.

What is this snow you speak of?

Reading this reminds where that extra money for comprehensive coverage goes. Glad you didn't have a window destroyed.

Re: Got a windshield scare today

I had a big chunk of snow/ice fly off the roof of a semi once and shatter the left side of my windshield. That sure woke me up! (Fortunately I was driving a work van at the time.)

Re: Got a windshield scare today

My Claret has a broken windshield. I wish I could find who sells those bronze Chinese knock-offs for $300.00 or a cheap used one.
