Whats wrong with this car

Why would someone repaint a car with only 30k miles a different color?

Re: Whats wrong with this car

It doesn't look repainted... not mentioned that it was repainted.

Are you referring to the fact that it is red? could it be an early 93 Anniversary model?

Maybe the car is mis-identified as a 92 when it is not... seems more likely than a 33K original car having a re-paint, but the VIN doesn't bear that out.

The VIN listed is JF1CX3538NH101427

N 1992, P 1993, in position 10... Vin shows N, and sequentially 1427th.

Sure looks like a museum-piece to me. Could it be a production gaff? Subaru starting the 1993 red paint early? It is correct for red, that the roof is body-colored, not black.

Re: Whats wrong with this car

It is a 92 by the VIN. It is not a 93. It has to be repainted. There were no red 92 SVXs anywhere in the world. Good question, or there is something else that I don't see.

Manufacture date of 05/91. This is a strange one. The interior would be beige if it was a factory red. I emailed them and asked about it.

Re: Whats wrong with this car

The trunk jams are red.

The turn-down sheetmetal edge on the roof around the sunroof is red. The door jam next to the plastic threshold plate is red.

If that is a re-paint, it is a thorough one, and someone did it right.

You can see on the trunk pic, that the area between the seal and the rear glass, the rain gutter, is red. But there might be some red paint overspray on the rear lower left corner of the rubber trunk seal.. or it could be a reflection... But I am seeing very few anomalies, visually. It would be interesting to see the car in person, and check under the hood, and under the front fender edges, and some of the really particular places that might show an original color uncovered.

I would think that if it were a red paintjob over white or silver, the roof and trunk top would look different, with a black base, unless it was either very well stripped down, and re-primed, or something equally time and labor consuming.

Could the VIN be a lie? A Vin from another car? Some sort of fraud deal?

Seller's Description and Comments
This is probably the nicest example of a Subaru SVX AWD for sale anywhere. Car has always been garaged and looks very close to new. I still have the original window sticker which shows close to $30,000.00.... I also have the owners manual and the maintenance records. Car has new tires and battery since these pictures were taken. It is red with dark gray leather interior. It is fully loaded including sun roof. As you may know, this was an extremely fast car and was produced by Subaru for racing. However, this car has never been raced or, for that mater, never been driven at anywhere close to its potential speed. Very few SVXs were produced by Subaru. They were so much more expensive than the typical Subaru at the time. Subaru should have followed the lead of Toyota and others by leaving Subaru out of the name. I am in the Palm Beach, Florida area but, Colorado is the strongest market for all wheel drive vehicles. I would welcome a survey by a professional of your choosing. I will e-mail additional pictures upon request to joelane@bellsouth.net And, I will respond to phone calls to 561-625-6574 with additional details.

That should be an interesting answer.

If it has a swapped interior, could it be wearing a 92 interior, with a 92 VIN, on a later car? The VIN tag is riveted to the dash-pad, isn't it?

That would call into question the odometer reading, as well... but that could go either way, and possibly still be authentic to the body of the car...

but I would then ask, why would they change the interior, and is it legal to use the alternate VIN?

Could this be a flood recovery car, or something? Good looking, but pieced together, and hiding something underneath?

SVX LS with leather interior? Are there no other numbers on an SVX to indicate a "numbers matching" car?

Re: Whats wrong with this car

The car is definitely painted. Look at the trunk weatherstrip in the last picture. You can see it painted in RED.

Cam this car is painted Barcelona red, which is a solid red that came out in 1993. If you looked at a red '92 it would have been the Ruby red which is a metallic colour. That particular red was not offered in the States so they are not all aware of it.

Michael that glass looks like Bronze to me. Green glass is way darker.

Re: Whats wrong with this car

Red tow hooks.

I think we might be looking at a perfect color changed car? (no under hood shots tho)

Also, keep in mind you can request unique colors at the factory. It costs a good penny, but I've seen it numerous occasions. Possible the original buyer wanted a fire engine red SVX. There is a factory pink caddy in Worcester MA.

Re: Whats wrong with this car

Could be my eyes but I think I see some overspray on the window seal below the back wiper, could be a reflection. The paint also looks a little funky by the passenger door sill.

The VIN is also stamped on the firewall, behind the engine.

Re: Whats wrong with this car

Remember to order a unique color, you would have had to do that in Japan. It sure looks like a re-painted car. The VIN also indicates a LS-L, not a LS.
