Re: AutoMD

Great site. I'm still looking for the best way to refresh the interior smell. My wife complains it smelled like old car...
The trunk still smells like new car though!

Re: AutoMD

I would say the interior smells can be from a few places in particular in these cars as far as I have seen.
#1 the carpets. Remove your seats and interior pieces to be able to completely remove the carpet (this is the best way to do this but not the only way) Once you have the carpet out of the car I would suggest steam cleaning it to help remove the stains and years of spillage. Also the carpet may have mildew from moisture so treat those areas as you see fit ( can help with ideas on what to treat and how to do it).
With the carpet out I used a slightly diluted purple power to wipe down the floor and clean all stains, where ever you have rust such as the bolt areas for the seats clean that up and spot paint the area to treat it. Then reinstall carpet. Unless you want to apply sound deadening prior to install!

#2 door panels and doors, I would recommend pulling them and cleaning behind them this would be a good time to upgrade speakers and apply sound deadening for your doors. I have been considering a combinination approach.

If you got $$ to blow use dynomat, if you want a decent qualit product that is pretty much the same or better use the edead sound deadener (can be found on amazon). Also check out http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/

New stuff and cleaning always helps with the smells.
#3 the headliner and the escaine panels should be cleaned as well.
#4 this one adds alot of funk to the car when in use. The heat and A/C vents I don't remember if this car has a fresh air filter but I believe it does. basically use a bleach water mixture in a spray bottle and spray it in the air inlet and some in your vents while the system is running. If you don't want to use bleach use some vinegar, it will stink it up some initially but should kill any mildew.
