how to remove body part

Can anyone tell me if the small body part below the rear window can be removed? It is the one that has the SVX logo on one side or the other on some model years. One of mine is faded badly and the clear coat is flaking off. I would like to remove it for a proper paint job without doing the rest of the car. How do you remove it?

Re: how to remove body part

Each rear quarter garnish is held on mainly with 8 plastic clips. There is also a clip on the end of the garnish that is covered by a body-colored cap (you can see them when you raise the trunk lid. These is removed as well, along with the power antenna on the driver's side

When prying off the garnish, you will probably break many of those clips that hold it on. They get brittle with age and it is almost impossible to avoid breaking them. be on the safe side and order 16 new clips. The P/N is 96002PA010 and they are about $1.80 each.

Re: how to remove body part

You'll need to be careful with the black edge trim as well. It can be brittle or you can tear it.

Re: how to remove body part

In regard to the black edge trim...are you referring to the black weatherstripping? Is it possible to order just that part? Like said, the rubber around those pieces is faded and brittle, if not available from subaru is there an aftermarket alternative? Buying strips of rubber?

I mean the thin edge trim along the bottom & sides of the garnish. I think it's still available as new.

Re: how to remove body part

Thanks all. I will stick my head in the trunk and see what I see. I'll order clips in advance and hold out for the seals as needed.

Re: how to remove body part

Good info! Mine are the same way so now I can just pop them off and have someone paint them proper alongside the moonroof and spoiler.
