custom grille

do i need to have the grille open to airflow or can it be a solid peice? i saw a nissan silvia which has headlights and grilles like the svx and its grille was a solid piece and said silvia in the middle of it. i was thinking of making one just like it but saying svx.

I'd think that if your cooling system is in A1 condition, the few square inches of opening wouldn't be missed. You might want to duct in your rad from the lower lip. You could also louver the lower pan like they did with the Pace Car SVX. Just some added insurance.

By all means give us a photochop of your idea.

no need for a photoshop, the concept svx had a grille exactly like the silvia's in question

apparently the shape of the waterfall was enginered to increase the velocity of the air being crammed into it, leading in more efficiant cooling than their originial desighns, which were remarkably similar to the 97 grill

Honestly though, I dont think anything catestrophic will happen if you fill the hole up..but for every square inch of hole you fill in,you should try to open up. Mabey cutting the bumper where the licence plate bracket fits to make a solid hole across thr front (along with holes drilled through the bumprer beam to make sure the new air supply goes somewhere) would balence any potential effects caused by such a grill, AS WELL as make it look nicer

my OEM grill(waterfall) has no air flow through it, i think you'll be fine. will you be fabing your own grill or buying one? if you make it, take lots of pics for a how to later please.

Don't think.....

Don't think airflow through the grill is relevant.

When you first came on the network I was going to try to help you. You live close to me and I thought it would be fun to help you work it out. I love to help people! I am real busy and told you so but would get to you as soon as possible. Before I was able to allocate the time to do that, the magnitude of so many different problems you had reported on your SVX was overwhelming for me. An example was wanting to go to the trouble of changing spark plugs and puting in used ones?? I honestly didn't know where to start.
Again, I am sorry.
Keith

The radiator gets most of it's needed airflow from the opening in the bumper, so a solid grille would be fine.
