Code 21
I got code 21 on the ECU which means I need a new coolant temp sensor. Thing is, i don't know where to get one or where it would go. So would a local auto zone or Subaru dealership have one? Also anyone have a picture of what it looks like and where it is located? I'm pretty much a noob to the whole fixing the car myself thing, but I'm learning. Sorry if this is a repost..
Thanks, David

I have the same code right now. It seems to be a dealer only part... roughly about 40 dollars. I need to order one myself

Come in to John and Phil's tomorrow, We might have one in stock... I know we had one in stock for my 90 Legacy, I don't know if it's the same part # or not though.. The one for my Lego was like, $36 I think (I don't remember exactly since I don't pay retail lol)

click for all the information you need on this one.
I only paid ~$26 for my sensor... Make sure you're getting the right one; there are two. Per the other thread, after swapping the sensor, you have to clear the code before the car will acknowledge that it's been changed.

Thanks for all the info guys. I got it out and replaced it. You guys are a serious money saver. But I need to remember to not work out in 30F weather.

How do we know which one is the faulty one?

The single wire temp sensor controls the gauge, and the two wire sensor is for the ECU.
You want the two wire sensor that naturally costs more than the single wire one.

The plug should be "Brown" and make sure you "Clear" the code after you change it. Don't do what I did. I did not know I had to clear the code and the car wouldn't start the next morning for work
