Picked up a nice 04 Forester XT in silver last week and am beginning to love it. If you need to SUV it, this is the way to go if you can't pony up for a RX400h.

The power and acceleration is addicting. I love my wife's XT.

Most recommended mods - ditch the yokohama geolanders if they're still on there and get an STI rear sway bar and mounts to get rid of the body roll. Huge difference.

Also you need to check out this thread on the banjo bolt filters http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=906921

Thanks for the link-hopefully I won't need it.

17" RoJa rims on the way(only 15# ea!), tires next and then sways. Maybe a Cobb someday as long as the warranty stays in force.

I bought my Forester XS in '03 and love it. I did install the short throw shifter, that made a big difference. Although it's not an XT it does meet my needs. I am considering the transmission mount upgrade. I have 63,000 trouble free miles on mine.

Good luck with yours.

What's the dope on it? Stick? miles? I can advise since I'm fresh outta the market.

Maybe I'd trade mine for a nice green 97 low miler...

Gotta say they are no SVX-much more of a stoplight bomber, bit of a pogo stick ride but great around town and climbing over things.

Oh yeah...just got a '98 Forester L for a "driver". I'm hooked. It's funny because I never thought I'd care for one. No, it's no SVX...it's its own deal! Stock Forester suspensions may not be to your liking but being so closely related mechanically to the Impreza there's plenty of things you can do to fix that.
Cool litttle vehicle

Forester eh? My sister needs to get a wagon/suv to haul her dogs around in.I recommended a subaru wagon of some kind and she is seriously considering one. If she were in the market for an older forester, what would be things to look out for? What kind of price ranges do they run in?. (Sorry for the hijack)

i'm not sure about its statistics; i plan to go take a look-see today since teh dealership is closed. as for trading it with my svx, that'll never happen. teh forester would replace both hyundais and would get us down to only three cars for two drivers. hubby works only 9 miles away from home now and we can deal with him commuting in the gas hog jeep three days per week. it sure would be nice being back into an awd vehicle.

I have wanted one since 2004. That is when I purchased a Toyota Matrix XR. Since I still can't afford one, I traded my Matrix in for a 2006 Mazda3 last month. Someday, I will be able to afford a Forester XT or perhaps a 2.5 Outback Sport turbo. Life will be good again soon. Enjoy yourself (Me Hatin!)
