Question Heated Seats

OK where is the switch for the heated seats? I have a 92 Ls-L with all the options and as I was rooting through the fusebox I saw a fuse for seat heaters. Where is the switch or is it just a leftover from an legacy fusebox? I REALLY would like heated seats. It has heated everything else dunno why the seats arent heated.

Unfortunately, you won't find a switch for the heated seats on the US spec SVX. They were only available in Europe and, get this, CANADA!! However, if you had a Euro/Canada spec SVX, the switch would be located where your little coin box is. Sorry, don't kill me, I'm only the messenger.

Here is a close up of the switch for the heated seats. (I picked this up from Bell & Colvill in the UK) As aredub says the coin holder just pops out and this snaps in its place (like the heated mirror/ parking light switch assembly on the other side of the steering wheel. Currently it runs $140.00.

It is presently in the dash and not connected. If I ever use the aftermarket heated seat kits I will use this switch to control them. The following is a site that offers heated seat kits:

Very interesting. There's an installer about five minutes from my office.

Any idea how much their installation costs?

Hey, here's an idea. Has anybody looked into what it would cost to order the seat heater parts from Subaru?

Doug Mohr has done extensive research (as, I think, has SVXCESS) on this matter. I think, for the cost of a tranny . . .

You got that right! The switch alone is $140.00, plus shipping from the UK. I tried getting parts from my contact in Japan but heated seats were not an option there, so P/N's were not available.

Doug checked out the various harnesses and other pieces needed, including the actual heating elements, and it is very expensive. Some pieces of the wiring harness is not available separately and must be purchased with other parts attached. I'm sure Doug can give more information on actual costs

I sent him photos of the switch and the wiring diagram for the rear of the switch. He figured out the connections and gave me all the connections that were necessary for the installer to use it instead of the switch in their kit. It will operate, dim and illuminate the same as the factory-installed seat switches.

My cousin just got a new Passat with heated seats and they are amazing!! If I can get some cash toghter that would be the thing I would want most for my SVX (along with the "low spoiler"). I will certainly give "props" to anybody in the USA who has an SVX with heated seats........just think about how impressive it would be to put "heated seats" in you signiture

Exclamation UPDATE! UPDATE!

I used the locator link to find one of the installers here in Anchroage and they quoted me the measley fee of about $300 per seat to install the heaters. This strikes me as awfully reasonable. I may have to pursue this after I get my stereo in...

Sheesh! Is that the elements AND the labor. That is VERY reasonable.

I had a Peugeot 505STi with heated seats. Nothin' like 'em on those cold winter days. Of course my 59.95 Sheepskins have served me well in both the cold and hot seasons. along with keeping guard over wear on my driver's seat bolsters. The Peugeot bolsters were beginning to wear through. I have a small wear spot on one bolster of the SVX, which is one reason I got the sheepskins. I learned, from the Peugeot, how short a time it takes for the leather to wear through, once it starts.

Here's the parts you need to buy to do an OEM install

Seat heater switch beige 83001PA200DO
OR
Seat heater switch grey 83001PA200MD

Front Left Seat Cushion 64225PA020
Front Left Seat Back Rest 64225PA030
Front Right Seat Cushion 64225PA000
Front Right Seat Back Rest 64225PA010

I've concluded that it would be much easier to build a harness for US Spec cars.

I will someday add in OEM spec heated seats (I don't like the small size of the aftermarket pads) and get it up and running.

If someone wants to get me a christmas present, get me the Canadian SPEC Electrical section of the shop manual

Doug

Doug,

My '97 LSI (USA spec.) has a heated drivers seat.
Usually, after I eat beans and cabbage.

Larry III
PS: Sometimes they get too hot that I have to drive with all the windows and the sunroof open.

I've just gone thru the 92 Canadian manual. There are Canadian references in it (headlights, security system, etc...), but there's no reference anywhere on the heated seats.

Oh well...
