Powder coating rear housing?
I am debating having the rear suspension knuckle/housing powder coated. Is there any concern of potential damage to the inner portion of the housing where the wheel bearings and hub are pressed in, provided this part of masked off?
I am concerned about powder coating overspray as well as the effect of this machined surface being exposed to 400 degree temperatures. |

You'll definitely want to be careful with having the bearing areas masked off. Due to the heat, you might want to consider a ceramic coating instead of powder coatings. Bill

Re: Powder coating rear housing?
I use the "cermakrome" ceramic-metallic from Thermal Tech Coatings. Good to 1300 degrees F.

Re: Powder coating rear housing?
Thanks guys but I'm not so much concerned with the temperature protection after its applied. The rear suspension isn't exposed to extreme temp to my knowledge. I'm more concerned with rust prevention.
Also forgot to mention that all bearings and rubber seals will be removed prior to application. |
