Re: new "bombproof" drive shaft muahahaha

its custom made, its essentially a GM style driveshaft the U-joints are serviceable and if need to be replaced its only gonna be 15 for a new one.

Re: new "bombproof" drive shaft muahahaha

Is that for your SVX?

Are the U-Joints going to be able to handle the angle without the center carrier?

Is it radioactive?

Re: new "bombproof" drive shaft muahahaha

Why would the U joints have any problem? While he added angle up front, he reduced angle in the rear. If they could handle the center carrier to rear section's stock angle, they should have no problem handling the 2 lesser angles.

I'm very interested in your long-term results. This is exactly what I was dissuaded from doing.

So how's this working out?

My junkyard Outback shaft is developing a nasty whine at highway speeds and I need to replace it soon.

Can you give us a few dimensions like diameter?

Re: new "bombproof" drive shaft muahahaha

i'm having no issues with it, mine's a 3" diameter piping, i had a choice to either go 3" or 2-3/4" but when i installed it i noticed that 3" might've been too much it was slightly rubbing one of the fuel lines so i just adjusted the angle of the transmission to compensate,

the reason why the shaft is bigger is cause if you use a smally pipe you get a "skip rope" effect, longer the pipe the thicker it needs to be. the stock DS is 2"-2-1/4" but thats because there's the carrier bearing in the middle.

as for length i dont exactly remember i measured it from the flange to the rubber seal on the transmission, when you get a DS made make sure theirs some play in the driveshaft cause if its on tight and not moving, the transmission with break on bumpers cause it will push on the spline rod at the back.

I was tempted to paint the driveshaft green and black with the barberpole spiral but i got lazy :P

Yeah the shop I went to was telling me due to the length they would not make me a pipe smaller than 3 inches in diameter.

I didn't have them make it because I was worried about fitment and things, but I guess if you're having no problems there's no reason not to do it.
Were you able to compare the weight to the stock shaft?

How did you adjust the angle of the transmission?

Re: new "bombproof" drive shaft muahahaha

the weights were about the same i never did end up weighing them. but picking them up was about the same, the new one might be a bit heaviers, it has bigger beefier ujoints compared to the stock, its essentially an SUV driveshaft.

the way i made my xmember allows me to adjust the angle with spacers.
