Transmission compatability

*Compatibility...typos ftl

I've had a whining transmission for a while, and I was wondering if anyone has compiled a list of transmissions that will bolt up and modifications needed for each one? I understand that for many auto swaps it's just changing the tranny and the rear gears, but is there a list of which cars have the right transmissions (I figure it would be cheaper to buy a whole car with a blown engine or something).

Anybody know off the top of their heads which cars and years will fit? I'd prefer to do a 5-speed swap, but I'd do an auto swap if I found a cheap enough donor. Thanks!

Re: Transmission compatability

Please use the search function, or look in the tech thread as there have been posts in the past couple days pretty much explaining everything.
FYI though, you can find an auto trans and rear diff for a lot cheaper than a whole car with same mileage...

Re: Transmission compatability

I went through about the first page of title only searches and didn't find what I was looking for. Respectfully, I know how to search but this is an issue that comes up all the time and it sure would be nice if there simply was a comprehensive list stickied...that is the purpose of this thread, sorry if I was unclear.

FWIW, I frequently come across complete cars that I'm fairly certain would be compatible for $200-600. I'd rather do that simply to make sure I've got everything I need.
