um 87 89 octane wats that??
im using 98 . over here its 15c a ltr dearer than our regular 92 . and we have a couple of stations selling real premium race gas but its just about twice the price. i drive 320km a day to and from wrk and if i sit quietly at our legal 100kph on 98octane im using an average of 8.7 ltr per 100km.my svx running 98 is way cheaper than my wrx and my legacy gives me an average 12.3 ltr per 100km on the same trip and its a 2005 . so not only is it more economical but i have a much better handling and comfort level as this daily trip i do is a pretty challenging with hills and very windy road wth numerous 45kph corners etc.. but in the city thats another story lol |

We have different methods of rating octane than many other countries.

i definatly notice the change between 92 and 98. the power etc is way more smoother but its way more noticable on open roads not the shoping run ae!
and its far more noticable with the ECU crush . |

Again and Again
Again I will say that I have always used regular gas (86 Octane) and have had absolutely no problems. One of my cars has over 200K miles and all by me or family.
I get good gas mileage in all but one and most of my driving now is at high altitude--over 6000 feet. I live at 7500 feet so much of it is at that alititude and higher. But, for those of you who just have money burning in your pocket--by all means buy only premium and be happy. Lee

They only offer 87 89 and 93 here, I don't want to use 89 and its only like 10 cents more a gallon for 93. My gas milage isn't to great because I don't drive highway all my driving is city and I hate it for it, I get around 215 miles 12 1/2 gallons so 17 1/2 MPG city. I wish I could improve it, 40 bucks a week in gas gets expensive I drive around 30 miles a day more depending if I have college class Edit: I do blame a little of my MPG on my driving as you kinda have to drive a little aggressive around here

I noticed in my celica, which didnt ask for anything more than regular, that I'd get better mileage when using 93 grade. yea, yea, it shouldnt have, but it did.
I run nothing but 91 in my car now, occasionally treating her to 93+, I'd scrimp if i know i was going to go a lotta highway miles and not need the performance as much as the savings, but no more, i hear that messes with the ECU for a few drive cycles if you go back and forth. c'mon people, we spend thousands a year in maintenance & beauty products on our SVXy ladies, whats an extra $3 at the pump?!?!

looking to trade my wife's WRX in for a small SUV.....
i found two 2005 Foresters with roughly 40k miles each - an XT turbo Premium, and a regular XS - both for sale at the same price! she wants the XS so she doesn't have to put 93 octane in it. it requires 91, but you don't see that very often around here, mainly 87, 89, and 93. i need to try to do some lobbying for the XT.

Around here its 87 for 2.55, 89 for 2.65, 91 for 2.75 , 93 for 2.85.
so if I did half 87 and half 93 it would come out to 2.70 for 90. This is right in like with the current fuel pricing by octane. And there is something to be said for the convenience of not having to make 2 fuel transactions while filling. You are also never guaranteed to get your mix exactly right. I will stick with my 91 octane,,, thanks. Jim
