Re: transmission problem revisited

a little history of symptoms would help. Just a blind guess would be the diff...

Re: transmission problem revisited

Does it sound like a card in a bicycle wheel? Does it only occur while moving? Does it become hardly noticable after a certain speed but only to return upon slowing down? If so you are most likely looking at a blown front diff.

Re: transmission problem revisited

when i bought the car first gear was unusually long and the transmission made a loud whining noise. that's the only symptoms that i really remember. also when i bought it it was flashing power on the dash, which i now know where trouble codes.......

it's a whining noise, you can't hear it after first gear.

If this whining noise is there when it's in Neutral, it could be the pump in the front of the trans.

Harvey.

It could also be the man in the moon scratching his head.

Your power light was/is flashing. It is logical that you should run a diagnostic check. This should tell you what is wrong. The how to section here, will show you how to do it. End of story.

if you have transmission codes, you need to see the how-to for checking trans codes and the green power light will flash, not the check engine light

to check the trans codes there is a process that you do with the shifter... something like turn key on, move to "D", then move to "3" and press manual button, move to "2" and depress man button, move to "1" and press manual button... Not what it actually is, just something similar-This is the only way to check trans codes on your own... i'll try finding the exact way since it seems the search function of this forum goes unused by so many or it must only appear for me at the top

Re: transmission problem revisited

tough work, took a whole 2 minutes to find after i searched for "checking transmission codes"

Quote:
To perform the self diagnosis test for EXISTING problems:
1) Warm up engine by driving at speeds greater than 12mph.
2) Stop vehicle and turn ignition switch OFF.
3) Turn ignition switch ON and make sure POWER indicator lamp comes on.
4) Turn ignition switch OFF.
5) Move selector lever to D and turn manual switch ON.
6) Turn ignition switch ON.
7) Move selector lever to "3" and turn manual switch OFF.
8) Move selector level to "2" and turn manual switch ON.
9) Move selector lever to "1" and turn manual switch OFF.
10) Partially depress accelerator pedal (to turn idle switch off).
11) Check code as displayed on POWER light. Blinking once every 1/4sec is normal
