Re: Trunk Fuel Resistor
The Suzuki one certainly looks like it.
Use a mirror to check the pin on the tank socket, if the plug is bunt it may be also. As the wires insulation is breaking, it may be better to pull some new wires through from the tank, to the seat area, by attaching them to the old ones. Push on you are almost there.

Re: Trunk Fuel Resistor
PROBLEM SOLVED.....
Seven months later I think the car is back to being categorized as running. The replacement plugs arrived and I quickly popped the terminals from the old plug and put them into the new plug. Each gave a nice click into place and it looks exactly as the original. oab_au - Regarding the female plug end on the fuel tank cap portion. When I replaced the fuel pump I made sure to check the condition of that plug. Everything checked out (visual and continuity with the internal tank components) so I believe that to be spared from the short. My OCD is currently telling me to fix the in-line patch (See attached pictures) that I installed as I had to cut a small portion of the damaged connector so that I could install a new terminal. It works, its solid, but it is ugly. I did make sure to use marine heat-shrink along with electrical tape. I am not looking to make more work for myself but the best solution would be to re-run a new or at least mostly new portion of the harness from under the seat to the fuel tank. I have not yet gone under the car so that could determine if I decide to proceed based on how much work would be involved. If anyone has insight into that I would appreciate it.

Re: Trunk Fuel Resistor
I love to see success, you have done well, it's been a pleasure to help you.
If you connected the two wires securely it should be fine. Cheers Harvey.

Re: Trunk Fuel Resistor
I want to thank all for contributing to this very long thread. The car has been in re-assemble mode for a few days so its almost back to normal. The rear seat is all that is left to go in but I am delaying that till after a few drives so I can monitor the pump and connections.
The car is filthy, needs a wash but the interior is still in decent shape. The seats are being stubborn and not wanting to operate as expected with the fold down levers. I am expecting that to need addressing soon. I did give the car a slight dent in the passenger fender as I was rolling away from the garage wall - it was on four car dolly rollers. I hope some paint-less dent removal can straighten it back out.

Re: Trunk Fuel Resistor
So for a TL;DR
If my car runs with the resistor unplugged, but won't run with it plugged in. I should check this connection and see if its fried and replace if that is the case?

Re: Trunk Fuel Resistor
Essentially the resistor was a red herring and my particular issue was that the fuel pump connector was burned out causing an intermittent outage of the fuel pump.
To help rule that out with your car I would just double-check that plug on top of the fuel tank, where the wiring harness connectors are located. You must look inside the plug at the pins to verify they are are viable. If the plug and connectors all look ok, check the continuity of the harness heading forward to the front of the car.
