That's really horrible.

There weren't any injuries, were there?

I have never seen anything like that. I have heard about it but never seen it. Unbelievable until I see the pictures.

Do you get any warning before a storm like that hits? How do you know to get inside before you get hit?

Actually my dad thinks I should get the windows replaced whether I decide to keep it or part it or whatever. I've been doing some research and as far as I can tell it is very expensive to get the windows. These costs are from subaruparts.com mostly and do not include instalation or anything:

Windsheild: ~950
Rear Windsheild: ~272-500
Upper rear quarters: ~300 ea
Upper front quarters: ~150 ea

That's over $2000, without shipping and installation. I looked through old posts and I can't verify the prices of the quarter windows, does anyone know how accurate these prices are?

I may end up making windows with plexiglass if this is really that expensive.
If you are going to part it, then why spend the money on the replacement glass It'd be one thing if insurance was willing to cover it, but to pay for it out of pocket....

Uncamitzi got his glass from me. I still have the right rear quarter. And I have the front quarters too, but they are still in the doors.

Most of the ones I saw were bigger than golf balls. The biggest one that was reportedly found was 5 in diameter. On the news they were comparing them to baseballs.

One guy got knocked unconcious and got pelted for a while until some people rescued him. One or two other people may have also gotten hospitalized with concusions. There were also some idiots running around with a video camera and an umbrella.

This is New Mexico, I can guess the weather right more often than the weather man. We had no warning and no cover for our cars. This has been known to happen once every hundred years or so. We are much more accustomed to getting our cars sandblasted.

My dad says it'll keep the rats out if we keep it, make the car driveable/sellable, and we can sell the windows later to if we don't need them. I'm with you but I'm researching it for his sake.

Now back to business. Do you guys know whether I would have the blue or bronze tinted windows? The official word from subaru is $3013 for the blue ones and $2615 for bronze. At this point I don't think it matters.

thndrmtn92svx, how much would you want for those 3 windows?

My Bordeaux has bronze, so I would think the Claret's also had bronze (but I'm not totally sure). Bronze would look better IMO, and it's cheaper, too.

i believe window colouring has do with model year. my 92 claret has the blue-ish tinted windows while the 97 polo green has the bronze.

What color is the interrior? Typically a car company will match the window color to the interrior collor so that the light coming in matches the inside, so grey & blue, tan & bronze, but you should be able to look at the remaining windows and see what color they are, if you dont match the remaining glass it will look strange, and with all the parts cars arround here sosmeone must have a full set of glass for sale for far less than $2400-3000. If you havn't already try posting in wanted/for sale section.

I'm sure that umbrella was real helpful.

Those prices are actually kinda "low" in a way. I got list prices from a buddy of mine who runs an auto glass shop. It came out to somewhere in the $5000 range depending on what windshield I wanted. ...but those are list prices, and nobody ever charges list.

Find a used set or forget about it. As far as making Plexiglas windows, it's not easy, but it's possible. I find working with Plexiglas to be a lot of fun, but mostly because it's quite challenging. It takes lots and lots and lots or patience. Get it too hot, and you're back to square one. It's a very fine line.

Use the cheapest way to fix and drive if you really like your SVX.

.....don't know.

Is that really expensive for comprehensive insurance there? Shall consider next time.
