All-Wheel-Drive with viscous Limited Slip rear differential using a 90/10% power split front/rear, which transfers up to a 50/50% power split for maximum traction if the wheels start to slip.
quoted from http://www.cars101.com/subaru_svx.html This is where i'm getting my information from. Since i'm hearing both from this thread I would like to know which is correct.

The Euro model uses an epicycle gear set to split the torque to 36% front &64% rear. The clutch in this model acts as a Limited Slip clutch. Any slip at either end will apply the clutch to apply 50% to each end. Harvey.

Well, I listened to it with sound. Didn't know it was in German. It looked like the Audi had more speed hitting the hill. And the rear end slid a little going up the hill. I think it is very conspicous that they didn't have a Subaru.

I am sure that any subaru (with AWD) can make it and many of our members with other subarus will agree on it with out any doubt, but i doubt SVX due to its low ground clearance. All the vehicles over there are having more clearance than ours.
It really looks strange not having any subbie in the competition. -Pavan. |

I watched the video over and over. The BMW has a closeup of the tires. The tire thread pattern was different for the Nissan. So did they all have the exact same tires in different sizes?
My '97 Outback has gone thru some pretty bad snows. but not as bad as that hill. I had my '92 SVX out in 8" of snow with almost bald Yokohama AVS dBs on it (the first series not the mark II's). These tires were terrible (s*ck)in snow and driving cautiosly, I had only minor problems. I had the '92 SVX out in a 6" snow withTOYO T1S ( high speed summer tires) tires. It I've had my '97 SVX out in the same snow with good Dunlop SP-5000 AS (ultra high speed all-season) tires. It performed much better than the '92 on bald AVX dBs. I also had the '97 SVX out in 6" snow with TOYO T-1S tires (summer high speed tires). The '97 performed better that the '92 on the AVS dBs. The '92 now has AVS dB mark IIs. They are an improvement over the original AVS dBs. But, They still are not as good as the Dunlops in snow. However, our '97 Outback is much better in snow, even with crappy tires, than all our SVXes PS: Rosie's '94 SVX (PEARLY) never ever goes out in snow and almost never in rain.

The omossion of the Outback (or any other Subaru) is a bit glaring. As for the rest of the vehicles, as said before, tire selection and driving technique probably had more influence on the outcome.
An interesting Audi commercial

I ain't sure who made the video......just browsed and thought it was interesting to show you.
I did get stuck once with my teal svx. That's in a snowstorm night...I was naughty enough to drive in to an unplowed parking lot. I think it was 10" more. I had the problem to open my door...when I was on "D", I got off and I saw my front tires were trying to move(get traction) and my rear tires were spinning in the air. The snow was too thick and the SVX didn't have enough clearance, period. I would love to challenge that hill no matter my SVX is 5spd or Auto. I might have a chance if I don't stop. If I stop half-way, it'd require more effort to move up again - I always go to play with ice/snow on some very steep hills when snow comes. I agree with that it also depends on the car, the AWD system, the tires, the driving skill and etc. It will be cool if there're the Subaru, the MB SUV, the VW SUV to see who'd perform the best. Also, I think that Audi made it can be because it has one of the oldest/best AWD system technologies.
