Re: Has anyone actually installed 05-07 stock STI suspension?

Cool, thanks for all the additional info guys. I just got a set. So as soon as I finish my 4.44 swap(just have the rear diff left), I can get on with this suspension work.

One of the rear struts that I bought is said to squeak. If I decide to use it, how would I go about re-greasing it? If that's possible.

Re: Has anyone actually installed 05-07 stock STI suspension?

Well, I put the OEM STI springs on the front in place of the OEM SVX springs and they dropped the front about 1 3/4". Nice and stiff. Put the fender right down on the tire. Now if I can just match the rears. The rear needs to go down about 3/4-1".

I found the instructions on re-greasing the struts.

The front STI struts will bolt right in, in place of the SVX struts. But in addition to losing the mount for the end link, you would also lose camber adjustment on the top knuckle bolt. Otherwise, the bolt holes line up so you could just use a lower bolt for the top, or else open up the top bolt with a dremel.

Re: Has anyone actually installed 05-07 stock STI suspension?

Front STi struts have the upper hole slotted for camber adjustment, so you shouldn't lose that. Are you trying to put the rear strut in the front? The rears don't have the camber slot in the top hole, but the front does.

Oh, there it is. It's just too small for the SVXs bolt though.

Re: Has anyone actually installed 05-07 stock STI suspension?

You swapped both the spring and the strut? that's super low... any issues with rubbing on anything? Definitely looks interesting...

Have you done the rears? Curious to see how that goes. I've got it in my head to get the stock STi suspension and use some extra spring isolator rubbers to get it to about a 1.5" drop in the front.

Actually I just changed the springs in the front. I'm still messing around with the transmission, but I do plan to try swapping the the struts front and back, at least to try it.

Re: Has anyone actually installed 05-07 stock STI suspension?

Now that I finally have a transmission that works, I am revisiting these struts. I took apart the rears and regreased them. I expanded the mounting flanges by heating them with a heat gun and bending them open with a 3/4" id galvanized water pipe. Both tasks were quite easy. I hope to give them a try on the car this weekend. I'll be trying them with the SVX top hats first.

Anyone care to guess on potential change in ride height?

I also have a plan to attach a mounting tab for the sway bar in front, so I'll be giving those a try as well soon.

Re: Has anyone actually installed 05-07 stock STI suspension?

Well, that sucks. If you said "it will raise the rear about 2", then you'd be correct. Well, probably. I didn't actually install it. I just laid it along side the SVX one and it was 2" longer. Might raise it even more than that since the spring is stiffer.
