radiator problem

Found some transmission fluid floating on top of the radiator. Does this mean the radiator is bad?

Re: radiator problem

Sounds like it. Of more concern would be coolant getting into the tranny fluid. I would check the dipstick for the level and milkiness due to contamination.

Re: radiator problem

The trans shop has the car. They confirmed trans fluid is being lost. No visible leaks found. A radiator pressure test will be done. I have the option to provide a radiator. Where should I buy one? Autopartswarehouse?

May just be the rubber seal, where the cap meets the inside of the radiator filler neck.
I have to get one, because it's been sitting most of the summer.

I would have said buy a Silla on Ebay but apparently they are out of production for an unknown time period.

You could try one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUBARU-SVX-N...7d69f8&vxp=mtr
The seller doesn't have the greatest feedback score though.

Re: radiator problem

Wow, that's cheap. I rather pay a little more from autopartswarehouse.com
Or JCWitney.com for $249 Anyone purchase this one before?

Re: radiator problem

I paid $128 for my Silla 6 years ago and it's still going strong.
That Ebay one also has a lifetime warranty like the Silla. Just putting it out there.

If you are looking at the Mishimoto rad ,it's a universal fit and it says it requires a separate tranny cooler for an automatic. Sounds sketchy.

Re: radiator problem

Also-

I bought my other SVX in 1/2011 with a cracked plastic tank and replaced it with one from ebay/radsus. That was 100,000 miles ago. That one is down right now with a headgasket leak, but I don't think due to the radiator.

Re: radiator problem

I bought a Silla through eBay about a year ago, dirt cheap and still going.

Tried to buy another one, but out of stock.

You might want to contact the seller direct :

Since the transmission pressure is MUCH higher that the cooling system it would make sense that the transmission fluid would flow into the radiator.
I have bought and installed MANY RADSUS off of E-Bay and so far only two have failed.
RADSUS did take care of the bad rads.
Not overnight, but eventually.

Re: radiator problem

Because the Trans shop did the rebuilt, they are replacing the radiator for free. They want their customers to be happy! I am! thanks for all the replies!

Re: radiator problem

My car is held as hostage. The trans shop can't find a radiator that fits. They tried four different suppliers. The suppliers claim it will work, but when it arrives, it doesn't fit. They decided to have a radiator shop repair it. I agree, I don't want to wait anymore.
