Re: SVX Diagrams

Mmmm, FEM is fun! Threw a quick model of a tubular subframe together and applied some forces. What would be a realistic lateral force through the wheels during a corner? I've got it set to total overkill right now, 1000 lbs though each outside lateral link and 500 lbs through each inside one. I don't think the rear wheels are capable of generating 3000 lbs of cornering force. But hey, factor of safety, right?

This is with 70X deflection.

I've got an updated model of the car, I'll post it tonight once I'm home and can take a new screenshot.

Re: SVX Diagrams

I have the basic model done at this point, I'm just fleshing in the details. Panel gaps (and adding radiused edges in those gaps so it looks solid rather than just a simple surface model - notice the hood/fender gap vs the door), smaller parts like the mirrors and door handles, and then start applying some material and colours.

Re: SVX Diagrams

They definitely would be, I'm using Catia (one of the main aerospace CAD programs) to make these models. However, I wouldn't recommend using these as a basis for panel fabrication. The way I'm making the model is by extracting the guide curves from the diagrams and filling in the surfaces by best guess/what looks right compared to a real car. It's basically the equivalent of a freehand sketch. Things might look right but they aren't dimensionally accurate to the real thing.

Now if I had a 3D scanner that would be a different matter... Anyone have $20-30K I can borrow?

I want the blueprint so I can build my own roll center corrected subframe

lol. That was actually one of my motivations for designing it - now that my car is lowered my suspension geometry is all out of whack.
