Reliable calipers?

I'm in the market for a new set of front brake calipers(both sides). My mechanic is quoting $300 each for the last remaining OEM new calipers. I was wondering what forum members have done so far. What remanufactured brands are reliable? How about these :http://www.amazon.com/Raybestos-RC10...dp/B000C73W60/ ?Are they symmetric (same for driver and passenger side) ?

Re: Reliable calipers?

Cardone reman are good, I sell a ton per year without any problem.
Front caliper are not symetric, you need left and right.
P/n 19B1960 and 19B1961 with mounting bracket and hardware.

Re: Reliable calipers?

I bought Centric brand.

They work fine, but after 2 years the surface is beginning to corrode big time even though I painted them with calliper paint prior to installation. Corrosion is heaviest on the pad holders.

Re: Reliable calipers?

I would avoid DNS. I've seen two sets that self-destructed because the shot used in media blasting wasn't cleaned out and eventually shredded the piston seals.

Re: Reliable calipers?

When I got new front calipers they were Centric remans, not to badly priced either.

Re: Reliable calipers?

Is your current set not worth refabing yourself? Meaning you could get a seal kit and clean your existing ones for much cheaper.

Re: Reliable calipers?

I bought the seal kit and had them rebuild mine, 2 years later they are back to rattling and jingling...
Wish I just bought me some red painted remans..

On a side note, these napa rotors are garbage, warped them in under 6 months.
Should have spent the money for the R1Concepts, they were far better, but I was impatient at not having my SVX. :/

Re: Reliable calipers?

Thank you all for replying.
theflystyle, frankly I had not considered doing it myself using a seal kit. I was not sure of what the risks are since I don't work on my car myself. I think I am going to check out a couple of youtube videos . Ho long do you think it would take?

Re: Reliable calipers?

It depends on the condition of the calipers. Is it just the seals that need replacing or are the calipers rusted and seized? Buy a new set and practice taking apart the old ones for future options.
