"Lagging" under acceleration, and Missing ad Idle.
Beginning in the last week or so my car has been lagging under acceleration in a somewhat 'choppy' way. It used to do it only when the car was cold, and sitting overnight, but now it does it nearly all the time. Also, at idle, the engine misses. Anyone have any ideas where I should start looking?

I have been experiencing a similar lagging as of late. It seems to be only present when accelerating between 0 and about 25 mph. Above 25 it's not present at all. I have no idea what it could be. I have not yet had any engine misfires or skips (knock on woodgrain) but will watch out for them in the future. I think that I probably ought to change my plugs, do a throttle body cleaning and maybe even replace my timing belt just because I have no idea when it was last done.. Ahh the ambiguity of buying a car with no service history..

The plugs have about 4000 miles on them... I dumped a bottle of Techron in with my last fillup. Mike |

I had a rolling idle til I changed out the dirty air-filter for a clean K&N. Probably not due to the K&N per say, but definitely think ithad to do with a dirty air filter.

Ok... my air filter is quite dirty, so I'll swap that out today. Nubs is helping me out with changing the fuel filter tonight, and i have had the car sitting overnight with the battery disconnected. So I guess that's all I can do at this point.

Mike-
Please post a procedure for changing the fuel filter once you've done it. I'd like to add this to my little list of "to do" projects. Thanks- -Adam |

I'm experiencing the EXACT lagging when the car is cold. Anything i should look at? There's no check engine light. But can i check the error codes anyway? How do you do it?

Nubs did my fuel pump tonight... Thanks Mike! He simply clamped the fuel hoses to keep the gas from flowing out.
But... this had no affect on the conditions im expierancing. I filled up with 94 again today, and added another bottle of techron. Mike |

Got my car back from the exhaust shop, lagging is totally gone now that I have an exhaust system instead of open headers!
On a side note 0-60 times are about 1/2carlength less than a WRX w/unichip. Have to do some more runs against my buddy to see if it is consistently that quick. -mike |

It sounds almost like a lack of spark. Check your plugs to see if they are clean, or if any of them look as if they are being fouled. If all the plugs look unsuitable, change plugs. If one looks bad, try new wires, and if that doesn't work, then it may be a coil. If the plugs all look good, then we can move on to something else.
