92 svx with manual transmission
hey guys im looking at buying a 92 australian delivered svx with a manual conversion, however the car needs the conversion finished, all the hardware is installed, it just needs the wiring done, the gearbox has a 2 wire speed sensor installed, and its not currently wired into the car, im pretty sure that the reverse lights and neutral switch arent wired in either. the TCU is still in place though, i believe this should be removed to complete the auto to maual conversion, and i also believe that the auto trans descrimination wire is still connected,
basically im looking for a how to to complete the wiring, to see if its worth buying one thats half done or stick with an AT one. it also needs a heater core. its also been out of rego since dec '08 so thats going to add to the costs also. the car is approx $3k cheaper than any registered auto one i can find though, so thats a plus. please help me become an SVX owner, regards , Ben. |

Re: 92 svx with manual transmission
By the time you get all the mess straightened out and the heater core replaced you will be kicking yourself for not getting one that is functional.

Re: 92 svx with manual transmission
I just did the wiring not too long ago, it's not terribly hard. Just make sure that's really all it needs because it can be tough to figure out since it's a rare car and the manual conversion makes it even more complicated.

Re: 92 svx with manual transmission
i read it and it doesnt cover the speedo signal , the aus spec ones use a different speedo sensor from the limited info i found in desertrunner's thread.

Re: 92 svx with manual transmission
For the speed sensor, what is usually done here is to take the speed sensor from the svx automatic and use that. Dunno about the aus spec ones specifically though.

Re: 92 svx with manual transmission
yeah thats what i figured as no one's manual conversion mention's naything about speed sensor wiring, the aus spec 4eat is a VTD auto, so has a speedo sensor on the output shaft of the auto, not the front diff like the usdm svx's.

Re: 92 svx with manual transmission
the svx is now in my driveway. dash is apart to easier access the tcu and remove the poorly installed alarm. fingers crossed for a smooth transition.

Re: 92 svx with manual transmission
Can you link me to desertrunner's posts? Maybe I'll pick up on something.
What does the plug coming out of the car look like? Also did you figure out the reverse and neutral switches?

Re: 92 svx with manual transmission
so the speedo sort of works, if you drive the car in first gear , no speed reading, thn 2nd gear it spikes and by 4th gear its well off the clock (260km/h) i know there is no way that its anywhere near accurate, anyone got a fix? do i need a 3 wire sensor? thanks, Ben.
