Is there an easy way to disable the 92' automatic seat belts

I want to disable the automatic seat belts in my 92', in the locked back... 'driving' position' and just click the belt in and save them from further nomal wear and tear. I have checked the service manual and find no easy 'pull the fuse' type of shut off. Removing the rear panels and unplugging the connectors is doable although, a harrasal to reconnect later or in a moments notice. Anyone know of an easy way to 'turn em off' ? Airbag?.. don't care..

Only way I can think of is they move when you close your door.. Look for something in or around the door that triggers it and see if you can fool around with it..

Other than that, my only other suggestion is to cram a stick in it..

The door switch is inside the lock unit, you may be able to hack it to always keep the timer control fooled into thinking its closed all the time, but it would probably have some unintended consequences.

The best way to defeat the system is to just unhook the harness from the motor, although this may keep your seatbelt light on, and in some vehicles at least, it will disable the SRS airbag. IMHO this is one thing thats just best left alone.

Re: Is there an easy way to disable the 92' automatic seat belts

There is a "limit switch" mounted on the shoulder harness track, near the front of the door (near as I can tell from the diagram). If there's a problem with the switch, you have to slam the door hard to get the belt to move back. I know this intimately!
It might be possible to either unplug or short across the switch, depending on how it operates. Still, that might be hardly less of a pain than unplugging the motor.
The part number of the switch is 64700PA200. If you go to subaruparts.com and search by the part number, it will show you a diagram.
Hope this helps.

Just get a toggle switch to mount somewhere unseen and just wire it up to the connector. Should get you exactly what you want. One way the switch cuts power to the motor and the other lets it perform like normal.

Re: Is there an easy way to disable the 92' automatic seat belts

I saw this in the how to docs. You can use your rear window switch to run the seatbelts. If you did this, you could just leave them in the driving position all the time, and easily move it back forward when needed.

Here's one that'll really cook your noodle. When I bought my car the seat belt motor had been disconnected and the dash warning light was lit. My roommate at the time was a bit of an electrician (he helped me install my stereo, etc) and he rigged up this new "computer" to control my belt. The blocks in the center are all identical Bosche 5pin relays.

Using available leads we were able to replicate the motion of the passenger side perfectly, and once connected the warning light went out. The constant +12V has an inline fuse for safety, and after almost two years in use I haven't had a single problem with this mod.

I've posted this before, but if any of the electrical gurus have a question or comment to add please feel free. I did all this work prior to having my account approved here, so I was flying blind at the time.
