My 1992 Alcyone SVX Project

My 1992 Alcyone SVX Project

Plan is to turn it into a hobby road legal track car

Ive had this for close to 16 months.
Its a project/parts car thats been on Hiatus

I drove it a little bit but it did have some problems with it like....

The bad
The Rear diff seals had gone and had been leaking the diff oil out.
The diff was stuffed.
It would shoot out a random warning check engine light from time to time.
The stero had been removed.
The diff rubbers had gone.
Its had dodgy wiring and had wiring cut all over the place.
Interoir trim broken

The Good

It had only done 126,000kms.
Auto changes great and still feels great.
It was still a great car to drive
body is straight.
motor runs sweet.
Its a nice sort of Gun metal grey charcoal colour.

It will be a slow moving project. ( Money is very tight which doesnt help. and weather dont help either )

Ive got a replacement diff. new diff seals. new rear diff bushings.

These pics where taken when I 1st got it.

Re: My 1992 Ayclone SVX Project

Ive Removed a load of stuff out of it.

Loads of audio/stero cables, Tv arieal
Removed the old alarm,

I was Amassed the svx hadnt had a fire in it. The 2nd to last owner must had put all this flash stuff into it. He ran a thick postive wire from the battery to what must had been a sub????
Any way he had put it between the rubber grommit and the sharp edge of the fire wall.
It had cut in but hadnt made contact with the copper.

Re: My 1992 Alcyone SVX Project

Ive also pulled the rear subframe out to replace the diff bushings and replace some badly cracked bushes.

Havnt done much more due to me running out of monney...

heres some pics of me removing rear subframe..

I wonder if one of my reasons the diff is stuffed was because the diff breather was missing. letting some dust and water get in?

I picked up some new diff bushings for it from Subaru.
After I saw them I thought it be better to get some bushings with more meat in them and less flex.
I ended up with a set of earthworms? bushes

Pic showing both factory and after market ones

showing factory and after market side by side

Looks good so far. What all did you have to remove to take out the subframe by chance?

They are same ones here..
http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...=diff+bushings

I was lucky to remember a member here in Christchurch brought a pair but didnt pay for them and then disapeared off the face of the earth.
So I tracked down the guy that brought them and got them off him

Re: My 1992 Alcyone SVX Project

Ive removed a bit more from it.

Ive gutted the A/C unit that sits in side the SVX and blocked the big holes in it.

This is the left overs from inside of the A/C box

Next thing is to block of the vents etc in the heaterbox part so only the front window demister works.

Re: My 1992 Alcyone SVX Project

Looking good!! Are you going to be converting it over to manual??

How may kilometres do you have on your car, because if you want to get rid of your heater core, I might make good use of it one day.

Thanks, Jordan.

I will be converting to manual when I have money for a 6 Spd lol.
Ive temporly run out of funds at the moment.

Its done 126,000kms.

Ive got to keep working front demisters to keep road legal. So will probley keep it at the moment.
Saying that I may want to replace the heater core with a brand new one when I get a new racing alloy raditor made up for it.

Re: My 1992 Alcyone SVX Project

I looked into getting PWR to make me a new heater core when mine blew, but I gave up because time was a big issue. If you send PWR your heater box and heater core they'll make you one.

My new one is made out of copper and brass, in theory that should be better because copper and brass are higher on the chart of galvanic corrosion which means that the copper will be less likely to corrode than the old aluminium heater.... Hopefully.

But I think that my old heater cracked at the bloody plastic anyway.

Theres a place I can get a alloy raditor made up locally and isnt to bad of price. same with the heater box.
They look like they do a reasonable job.
Ive also got another place that I could go to get one made up.
