Trans coolers in winter

For those of you running trans coolers who live somewhere it gets cold in the winter, do you have any issues in the winter? I know that even with my copper rad the trans would be continually unlocking and re-locking the torque converter on the highway. Every couple minutes I would see the revs jump by 100 or so, then drop back down a minute later. If this is because my built in cooler was working too well, then I don't see any point to adding a dedicated cooler until the spring. Anyone else notice this sort of thing?

Yeah, I have my external cooler completely bypassing the rad, so it gets cool in the winter. I can watch the gauge slowly drop on the highway and as soon as it hits 100* the TC unlocks.
Last year I made a plastic panel to cover it, that helped and kept the low between 120-140. This winter I plan to re plumb the lines to include the stock rad cooler.

Thanks John, that's what I've been thinking. I've seen that there are thermostats and valves available from Summit. I'm going to see how it goes for this winter though, because I'm suspecting that my PWR rad will keep the trans too cold for lockup as is. Winter temps here hit -20F or lower on a regular basis. -40 or 50 would not be a shocker.

I've notice the rev change & my mechanic said it was just the TC lock/unlock. I never knew enough to consider it to be caused by the transmission cooler.
