Legacy binding problem

Hey guys I think my 97 legacy wagon has developed a binding problem after my local mechanic changed the transmission oil and replaced an axle boot. I am going to have to take it back first thing next week. Car drives fine but I can feel a strong shuttering when making a tight turn. Do you think they screwed something up changing the transmission fluid (which seems full) or is it more likely that the problem occurred when they repaired the boot???
Thanks
I've read some of the posts on binding on the svx but wasn't sure if it pertained to the legacy...

Sounds like Torque Bind to me. The fluid change may have brought it to light.

ok I'm thinking the same sort of thing. What is the fix for this.... And do you think I should bring it back to the same mechanic or take it to the Subaru dealer?
thanks

Solonoid C. Been there, done that. Had to do it to 2 97's in the last 4 months. How many miles??? I had one go at 95K and the other went at 130K. Not a big deal, but will cost about $300. if you have a mechanic that doesn't want to put his kids through college on your dime.

If they give you horror stories, you might have to arrange a vacation to OT's house!

PS, I drove the one car for over 10K without hurting anything and had just bought the other one, so I don't know how long IT was doing it.

You have to hope that it's Solenoid C and not the tailhousing being ruined. The easiest way to check this is if you put in the FWD fuse, does it go away. If it's a 4EAT and the binding goes away with the FWD fuse in, the Solenoid is shot. If it doesn't, it's the rear/tail housing. See this link: http://legacycentral.org/library/torquebind.htm

Good News. I put the FWD fuse in and it seems to have gone away. Can I drive it in FWD for an extended time without causing any further damage to the tranny etc?

A dealer asked me to drive an Impreza that he had on the line. I drove it. I told him to put a trans in it or sell it to me for a song. He put a trans in.

He told me that, "as far as Subi's go, I'm his new best friend". I told him that he needs to meet OT!!

For 10 k, I let mine bind! I just avoided sharp turns. I asked OT the other day to put a switch in mine so I could chose 4wd or AWD. (He did it to the race car). I kinda LIKED my car in 4wd all the time, but I realized that it could wear stuff out sooner.
