HELP: Im going to attempt a 5 speed swap in....
I am thinking about doing thie 5 speed swap in Ive been reading so much about ...I have a 92' w/80,000 on it, Tranny was factory replaced at 45,000 and I am guessing This one will be giving me some problems in the next 5-10,000 miles...I would like a 5 speed but since this SVX is my crusier and not my gear-banger I would love to stay w/ the auto tranny....But if it needs the switch to save the car it must be done.....I need general help as well as a parts list and manufacture list...This is my first flip and Im sure it will be alot of time under and in the car...Also if there is any one in Long Island NY or if theres a club I may get some help from it would be killer...Thanks all

Also, if you prefer to keep an auto, swap in a 4.44 Outback tranny and rear diff, as it will hold up better than the stock 3.54 tranny, and make it a more "Sporting" car to boot.

thanks guys...Does the auto tranny you talked about hold up as well as any auto tranny or is it still touchy like the stock svx tranny? And also can I get a brand new one or does it have to be from a late model.....thanks

My thoughts are that they will hold up better than the stock 3.54 SVX tranny, due to they make less resistance on the tranny clutches, due to the lower gearing allowing the weight of the car to get moving more easily.

Trannys from pre-98 Forester's & Impreza's will not be compatible? My trans was replaced in 2003 and am preparing for it to go out (even though it still shifts strong and im changing the fluid and filter next service).

For what it's worth, I have almost 100k on my SVX automatic right now. So far it's lasted 91 thousand miles.

Most Impreza, and standard Legacys have 4.11....and some 3.90's, both are better than the stock 3.54's, but the 4.44's are the lowest.... And I've been told the Foresters had the 4.44's...but I've never heard anyone confirming that.
