Kelvin,

What is your ebay id so that I know never to bid on what you might be selling.

The bottom line is that an honest person describes the item they are selling to the best of their ability. The intent should always be that the buyer is getting what they have bid on. Portraying the item in a correct light avoids people not being on the same page. Omission is intentional for a seasoned ebayer (which he is) and is as bad as direct misrepresentation.

Period.

Again, it was his responsibility to ask for really high res pictures if he wanted wheels that were completely flawless. If I were selling them, I probably would describe them as mint also, BUT, I would have pointed out ANY flaws I would found, just so I'm sure people know what they're getting. It is possible this guy didn't even notice these flaws.
Kelvin, a couple of points:
"Mint" is not a variable term. It means "as new", regardlesss of what you are selling.
It is not the responsibility of the buyer to request high-res pictures. A wise idea? yes, in light of the experience of ebaybrad. The seller's responsibility is to describe the items as accurately as possible. "mint" comes nowhere near what these wheels turned out to be. I find it hard to imagine that the seller didn't notice the flaws on the items he was selling - he has the highest res image available does he not? I mean he's LOOKING at them.
I think we can agree on one thing, be extremely wary of anything on ebay!
I also had an experience with an Outback I was thinking of buying off ebay. It looked like new on the ad, was described in glowing terms, and had several low-res pictures. I was actually close to bidding on it. The car was a couple hours away, I decided it would be best to eyeball it first. Turned out it was a total pile of junk. The pictures taken were.....I would say "creatively" taken. Just the right angles and low-res enough to hide the crap.
So what I'm saying is that you are right questioning EVERYTHING in the ebay ads, but the sellers are WRONG using the tactics they use - especially the one ebaybrad dealt with.

I understand where Kelvin is coming from. One person's view of "mint" condition is someone elses view of "flawed"...we don't all have the same standards. I guess it's better to ask more questions before bidding and get as many close up pictures as possible.
In my opinion, it's better to get rims only and order new tires.. the SVX is not meant to have different tires or 2 new/2 used tires anyways..

Ebaybrad, if you are unhappy, go ahead and dispute it, but your other option is accept it and go get the rims refinished and put new tires on it.
I am in the process as soon as I accumulate enough money. I bought rims from a guy on Ebay 1 year ago and they were described as flawless....well I got them and one was bent and the others had curb rash on them. Right now they are sitting in my garage waiting for me to take them to a reconditioning shop.

Good luck

Mint Condition = Perfect, as if fresh off the Mint.

Mint does not equal a bent rim... seriously.

The word "Mint" is one of the most widely abused words in the English language. People have distorted the meaning to make it whatever their idea of the word is, but "Mint" means like new! Thats it! I feel for you Ebaybrad. I understand where you are coming from and what you are going through. I really hope you can get your money back. I have bought a few parts over the years that were described as "Mint" which weren't. Even after all my questions the sellers would still insist that it was exactly what I was looking for. Then the item would arrive and all I could do is laugh. Another funny thing is the sellers who will just stop responding after you ask more than one or two questions and request more pics. I buy most my parts from the Subaru dealer for a lot more money just for the fact that I know exactly what I am getting. Bottom line is you really have to watch out for Ebay these days. Idiots are everywhere.

Yeah, the only time "Mint" shouldn't look like new is if it's green, leafy and smells refreshing. A bent rim and bad clear coat should never be described as mint, even if it's for a 100 year old car.

Perhaps the buyer was somewhat naive? But that is a mistake he has now learned from. The seller on the other hand, didn't make an honest mistake, this is even more clear when you look at his history.

In many area's "Mint" means that the item is in the same condition as new but it can't be sold as new. A pro grade camera that has been taken out of a box but shows no use would be listed as "Mint"

It seems that the only three people that don't agree are the seller, a guy he knows, and a new guy that likes to disagree and cause problems

You can exclude up to ten sellers when searching eBay!

Do your initial search for, say, SVX. When the results come up, you can choose (next to the Search button) Advanced Search. When the new page comes up, scroll down to From Sellers, switch from Include to Exclude, and enter our "friends'" names, with spaces in between. Easy!

I have quite buying from ebay ever sence these guys have come to town. You can't trust ebay any more it seems.

We are in our last phase of our server upgrade, which I know has taken more time than we thought, but when we are done, we will have a feature which will help everyone with parts. We need a few more parts to get this thing up and running and then we can enjoy the new software and features.

I have a brother-in-law who works as a buyer for Starbucks and we were just discussing a question similar to this over the weekend.
He stated the following:

The buyer's only responsibility in a transaction is to pay the invoice, period.

The seller on the other hand is responsible to deliver the agreed upon product in the agreed upon condition within the agreed upon time frame. If the seller doesn't meet these obligations the buyer is totally within his rights to refuse delivery.

A couple other "observations" on my part.
Words have meaning which are not up for debate. Stating a part is in MINT condition has a defined meaning which is not open to interpretation.

The pictures displayed in the auction were not high res but clearly showed different tread patterns on at least 3 of the 4 tires. That alone should have been a clue to the buyer that the seller was not on the up-and-up.

Ebay is the internet version of the flea market and everyone who shops there should keep that in mind. Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware!!!!)

What did I just say? In the post directly before this one of yours? I SAID I DESCRIBE ANY DEFECTS I CAN, so I know what people are getting. On the same token, what is your ebay user ID, so I can avoid selling something to you, then having you complain it isn't what you hoped it would be after receiving it, and never once requesting high resolution pictures before bidding?

I will try that too. I really don't like to have to go through most of the ebay list of stuff wondering if the same seller (which I won't buy from) still is listing all of the parts.

I've asked several q's about items from this seller which he must have not have liked much because he has never answered any of my questions about what he is selling.
(made me wonder a little)
People that do things like that really do blow.

On the other hand I have 4 'mint' stock svx wheels and tires from a '92 I would sell you. There is a "scratch" on one of the wheels (bends light and metal). They even come with stock lug nuts (didn't say how many). Includes all four center caps (which I won't show you because they look like hell). Oh, and make sure you pay quickly!

Yeah, I have been burned for several K on ebay, but the seller is no longer there... R.I.P. fools.

personally even if they where mint and had good tires I would of never paid that much for the set esp with the shipping cost added in.
I would of bought nice wheels or custom wheels maybe online
and tires locally, its always a better bet anyway.
