'92 external tranny filter

Who makes the external trans filter on '92 SVX's? Part #?

The one that bolts down in front on the passenger side?

Where can I get a replacement?

Nevermind ... found it via search. Subaruparts.com 92 campaign filter was what I was looking for.

I suspect they get replaced when they clog and cause the AT to burn up.

Not sure there's any specified service interval. Replacement every 24,000 miles ought to do, I think, provided you also change the fluid on a regular basis.

External Trans. Filter

My local Subaru dealer could find no information at all on the external transmission filter. Mine, actually, is under the driver's-side fender, near the front. If you don't have any luck finding an OEM unit, you can get a generic one from NAPA for a bit under $30. They come in 3/8" and 5/16". The inlet and outlet connections are at opposite ends, so you'll likely need a couple of feet of fuel line to compensate for that.

The part number for external filter kit that was installed on the 92's is 31099AA370

Do you know the part number for the NAPA generic one? I tried the Subaru part number in the above post, but my dealer says it is discontinued.

From the ATF External Filter Kit TSB found HERE

"The filter is designed to be maintenance free under normal driving conditions. It will not require periodic replacement. The only time replacement is necessary is in case of a transmission failure which leads to excessive metal contamination of the fluid."
