check engine+ no codes
I have a 96ls, on my way home my check engine light flashed, then stayed on.
I plugged in my generic OBDII code reader, and it said "E". Well, there is no code E, so I tried the two blue wires/black plug trick behind the kick panel. There was no wire running to the second plug on the left, top row, and that socket is empty! Did Subaru delete this feature when they went to OBDII? Also, my ABS light came on during my messing with it, but I hope that's a separate issue. Shouldn't my code reader pick up something? Wolfman |

Welcome to the site!
Yes the self check method with the blue wires only works for the 92 to 95 models. You must use an OBD-2 code reader for the 96 & 97 models.

I thought so. So, what do the blue wires do? Vestigal organs?
I'm hoping I had bad gas, as it only sputtered for a second. I'll disconnect the battery to clear it, and keep you posted. |

I think you've guessed it. Actually you may still be able to pull the seatbelt & power steering codes with those wires.
