Unexpected

What was your biggest surprise you found out after buying your SVX? This can be good or bad.

To me (and I think Randy would agree), it's the family that comes with it. It's great to be able to go to a meet and talk to other owners you've never met before as if you've known them your whole life.

That my tranmission rebuild would cost $4700.

I would agree with the extended family that came with it. I didn't know that I would love it so much either.

- How sweet the engine pulled and sounded. I love the EG33.

- The unbelievable group of friends I now have because of this car.

Honestly, I was surprized to find such little aftermarket available for the SVX.

Soon after purchasing, I put the pedal to the floor from a stop in the rain to show off and break the tires loose for my buddy. I was very pleasently surprized when the car stuck and pushed me back into my seat w/ minimal tire spin.

for me it was my dream car since i saw it in the denver car show in 1992...i couldn't believe i bought one... but after finding out about tranny problem it spends more time in the garage than on the road. i'm going bankrupt what to buy supercharge but need radiator, 6speed manual tranny, new clutch set to suport more power, need nice rims and tires, uphostery, need springs. and the most important part money. other than that i'm happy with the car.....

I suppose my first inkling of the SVX was at the LA Auto Show in 1991. I sat in one and it's just felt right. Being 6'1" ir was always hard for me to find a Japanese car that I could actually fit in. I have longish arms and must use the Italian driving position, which made the SVX for me. At the time all I could do was dream. They were just too exotic and expensive. So after 14 years I could actually have one all to myself. I did my research and am willing to accept the short-comings. I mean, I was paying nearly $600.00 a month for my New Beetle Sport with insurance. Now I pay $50 a month for full coverage on my SVX, so I have $550.00 left over. As much as I liked the Turbo Beetle, it does not carry a canle to the SVX. Even if I rebuilt the tranny every two years, I am still way ahead of the game. I have no regrets. This is a keeper.

The only other person I have ever seen recognize the fact that the svx has a specific smell that just doesn't seem to go away It's not a bad smell, just amazes me though.

My big surprise was just how many people I caught looking at me driving it home the first time. I got fewer looks the time I had a lambo for 2 days.

It was the ride for me.
When I got out on the highway I just kept saying "Oh my Gosh" for about half the ride to work.
This SVX is sooooooo smooth and drives so nice and is so quiet at 80mph.
Then it was how fast it would get to 100mph from 65.
I used to wake up early just so I could drive it to work with less traffic.
That went on for about 4 weeks and then I realized if I kept doing that I would get arrested.

Find this web site was big surprise too. It still is most days. I am so glad to see new members taking active role.

What I find most surprising now is the quality of the materials used in the SVX. This SVX was built to last other than the tranny and wheel bearings. The looks were made to last too.

Obviously, my biggest surprise was that my original tranny had been replaced with a Legacy tranny.

And, yes, David, I agree. Although I'm not able to spend as much time with my "family" as I have in the past, it's the ultimate payoff of owning an SVX.

for I am a simple soul....

My big suprise was the little tray under the passenger seat.

~ I didn't realize every SVX had that characteristic smell. I always thought it was some manner of cologne imprint by the smarmy old guy I got the car from.

(no offense to any smarmy old guys out there...)
