Just called up a dealer and got the part numbers for the pistons, theses are standard size pistons, not over bored ones.
Ej22t left side Right side 12018AA340 12013AA340 12018AA350 12013AA350 12018AA360 12013AA360 EG33 left side Right side 12018AA490 12013AA490 12018AA500 12013AA500 12018AA510 12013AA510 EJ22 90-94 Left side Right side 12018AA231 12013AA231 EJ22 97 12006AA420 All the pistons are the same left and right. EJ22 98-99 12006AA490 All the pistons are the same left and right. All the part numbers for the ej22t, Ej22 and eg33 are diffrent. Last edited by svxsubaru1; 12-21-2004 at 01:47 PM. |

They both list on subaruparts.com as $61.14 each. All right, who has a micrometer and $130 to spend on some R&D???

This might kill the thought. The ej22t has a 9.69 cm bore according to http://wac.addr.com/auto/obs/turbo/ejcalcs.html The SVX has a bore of 9.999 cm. That would lead me to believe they are not compatible. Doug

Pistons are different compressino ratio.
Been having a look at the site that you put up Doug. It shows the MY90.2.2, and the MY91,2.2T specs. The cylinder head volume is the same for both, but the piston volume is different, to give the different compression ratio.
So it looks like the pistons are different and are the cause of the lower ratio. Would do the same for the Svx. The other point is the pistons that are different on each side, is because they use a offset little end pin to reduce piston slap. Harvey.

According to Wayne, the piston volume on the ej22t is 28cc in volume compared to the 14cc for the ej22. If we were to guess the SVX pistons were 14cc, that would also lower our compression to 8.0:1 The more I look, the more it appears that the EG33 is a MY90 EJ22 design with two extra cylinders, new DOHC heads and intake. yeah.. i was pretty sure it as 9.69 for the SVX...
porsche 911 turbo is 9.999 though maybe it was just wishful thinking. if we already have forged crank and rods, i believe with a bit of machining these pistons would work. but i do think it will come down to someone trying. Does anyone know the head volume vs piston volume with from the eg33, ej22, and the ej22t??? this would be mighty helpful

Clearance volume.
Working with the figures posted, the ej2.2 has a clearence volume of 65.7cc to give a ratio of 9.4:1
Working backwards the SVX has a clearence volume of 61cc to give a ratio of 10:1. So if the ej2.2t pistons were fitted ,it wound bring it down to 8.6:1. Looks good guys Harvey.

of course they have different numbers, at the end it is a legacy engine and an SVX engine with different specifications, but the bore size is what counts!!!!

guys why are you all focusing on subaru pistons?? can't we dig up larger bores pistons from other manufacturers? Mitsubishi? Ford?..... the SVX bore as said is 9.99 cm in bore whereas the highest bore of another subaru turbo is 9.96 cm.
I prefer finding a 10 cm or 10.1 cm bore to fit our car, because when dismantling the engine some of you will get surprised to find that they are having some gaps in their piston chambers... so you will need either to fill it or better shave it a little bit to smoothen up and put higher bore pistons...
