Sorry to hear that!

Wanna join the 4.11/4.44 club? It'll cost less than buying a rebuilt 3.55 4EAT...

Man that's a real bummer, especially you being down in San Diego home away from home. I know my dad had a warranty on his 94 with 40,000miles when the tranny blew. It would've costed him $3,500. Maybe this is a good time to install a five speed

In a nutshell, all he does is rebuild auto transmissions
Fixes other shops hack jobs, and he knows all the tricks
to make any trans stronger, more reliable and better
thruout. Unlike what you can get almost anywhere else.
Hes been doing it for a long time and knows his ****e.
My Soarer has over 600 hp these days, he built me a trans
a few yrs ago, and it rocks. The ones in my Svxs are
great too. Firmer shifts from internal mods like its suppose
to be. Better clutches, and planetary gears, along with
better fluid distribution internally.

Another SVX tranny bites the dust

What a coincidence!

I too got word today from the dealer that my '92 SVX has to have a rebuilt tranny. He quoted $4011 for a subaru tranny and total cost of 4580 installed. What are the details with the 4.11 or the 4.44? I may be interested in going this route if it is cheaper overall and you guys like the performance difference. I am in Cincinnati if anybody knows of a good rebuilder or a good source for the other tranny!

thanks

I think I have one of the best rebuilders on the West coast
Hes not the fastest, but hes one of the best.
Factory rebuilds them with no upgrades. They dont want them
to last 10 yrs. My guy upgrades every area possible.

My sister lives in Cinn,.....seen a Laguna Blue 94 running around there with a hot blonde in it ???
Check out our store for more info on re-doing yours if you want to stick with factory ratios.

or email me if you have more questions.
Good luck with your car no matter what happens

Another SVX tranny bites the dust

Dayle,

what another coincidence! My hot, blond wife drives our '92 teal SVX. And yes I have seen a blue SVX twice in the West Chester area (just north of Cincy), would that be the one? Although when i seen it there was a man driving the car? Would anyone car to comment on a lower mileage used tranny to drop in versus a rebuilt one?

thanks

Dead tranny = dead svx??

My daughter's '92 was just diagnosed with a bad transmission (the fluid is murky black with metal particles). I have tossed about $1000 in repairs into a car that cost me $2250 two months ago and I am loath to shell out for a replacement transmission. My options seem to be a) slice open my wrists and wallet to replace the transmission with a used or rebuilt tranny and hope for the best, b) donate the car to some worthy charity and take the tax deduction (which I don't think will net me much in my current tax status) or c) part out the car (slow death by e-bay). Any ideas from my brighter, more experienced brethren? What my daughter needs is reliable transportation. I would be happy to trade her SVX for a Subaru in good running condition that would get her safely through a couple winters here in hilly Yonkers.

This sounds a lot like what happened to my tranny. Low fluid pressure caused by blockage somewhere - the dealer did a flush and replaced the internal screen and the tranny worked fine...

...for about a week. But then, that tranny had 133k miles on it.
