Smile Bowling Green, KY Corvettes!

I live just north of Bowling Green, Kentucky where the Corvette is made and where the National Corvette Museum is located. I love to drive my SVX when the Vettes are in town. I usually say "You have a nice Vette." What I get back is "Thanks. You have a nice... uh... umm... huh?"

Rory,
Welcome to the Network.

You can't imagine how thrilled I am to find an SVXer so close to home!!! A fellow named Bill Wagner used to own an SVX, and we got together a couple of times, but he sold his car, and I haven't talked to him lately (but I did see him at "My Classic Car Autofest" a couple of years ago -- showing his Mustang).

I'm originally from BG (Born and Raised)! Most of my family is still there. My youngest stepson used to attend Western and worked at the Corvette Museum. He had the awesome job of presenting the keys to the new Vette owners at the end of their tour of the Museum. He was going to arrange with the museum to hold an SVX meet there (ala the Porsche get together), but, he left to finish school in Texas before it could come about.

We'll have to get together sometime when I head down to visit my Dad and Sisters.

Feel free to e-mail me!

Ok if you are old enough you know I did not write that. Sound clips anyone?

I love the names of towns and places in the states.

Tom,
Good call. The song was done by the Everly Brothers (who were raised near central city Kentucky and one of which now owns the former Lake Malone Lodge near there. Their mother was originally from the community my Mom came from. A little place called Anna).

The song was actually written by a Western Kentucky University Professor for whom their theater was named: Russell Miller.

More info than you wanted, I'm sure.

Meanwhile, come on down here to the bluegrass state and I'll show you around. We can visit "Possum Trot" "Monkey's Elbow" "Monkey's Eyebrow" and the ever-popular "Big Bone
Lick."

WhenI was Living in Toronto they built a new concert hall. The Roy Thompson Hall. One and a half years passed before some one came that I wanted to see. So my wife and a friend from work and his wife went to see the Everly Brothers. I sang my hart out. No one comlained, but my friends wife was unaware that I sang all he time, at home, work and in the car. Heck my daughters have the back step down pat. "nope he's not with us"

First Dance at our wedding. I Bless the Day I found You.

Tom

Ps: I would love to go to Kentucky. Bluegrass capital of the universe.

Ps: I would love to go to Kentucky. Bluegrass capital of the universe.

Owensboro (where I live) is home to the IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) Museum. We used to hold the international Fanfest until it moved to Louisville. We still have a bluegrass celebration every year, but it's not quite as large as Fanfest was.

Rosine (home of Bill Monroe) is just down the road. They hold Barn Dances and bluegrass concerts every weekend (in the summer) there.

Central City is about a half hour drive from me. They hold the Everly Brothers Homecoming every year. John Prine is a regular guest there, as well as other notables.

I also sing at concerts (much to my wife's chagrin). However, I nearly did myself in at one concert. NEVER try to sing along with Frankie Valli unless you have a gender change prior.

Also, people don't really appreciate your singing harmony with Gordon Lightfoot (fine Canadian boy), especially when you're sitting second row, aisle.

No offense, but why would we want to hold an SVX meet at the Corvette museum?

And Rory, welcome to the network!

None taken. It's just that the Vette Museum often has gatherings of different cars there. Porsche Clubs, Mercedes Clubs, Hot Rod Clubs, etc. They treat you nice and have special prizes and stuff. My Stepson offered to set it up and I just thought it'd be a good idea. It didn't happen, so, no biggy.

I guess I just don't get...why. I mean, I know why we have meets. But why would we hold one at a museum dedicated to a different kind of car? If it was a museum for all kinds of cars, it'd be one thing. But specifically a Corvette museum seems...wrong. For both cars.

Living here in Bowling Green I see how the different car clubs are treated. Any group that meets at the Corvette Museum gets the red carpet treatment no matter what kind of car they drive. Bowling Green is a fair size town but its not huge. It's still small enough that the different business owners really take an interest. Hotels sometimes give special rates. Different restaraunts host events. It's not just the museum. The whole town often gets involved. Oh and BTW, there's the drag strip that's located just down the road at Beech Bend

My wife is from Eastern Kentucky and somehow or the other one of her distant aunts married into Ralph Stanley's family. She was a widow with children from her first marriage. So one of the lines around here is "Did you know were not related to Ralph Stanley?!"

Hello Rory,
I'm from the other end of the Cumberland Parkway, in Somerset, KY, It's good to see another Kentucky SVXer pretty close by, maybe we can get together for a mini meet sometime, and get Randy there too....and Crash, if he's still in KY...

Maybe a Mammoth Cave Mini Meet

That would be cool. We'd have to get Beav in on the act.
