now i know where all the SVX's went!

i was browsing around on this site and i noticed that a large majority of the people on here have more than one SVX, some even have 4 or 5 of them...
so now i know why i cant find them anywhere for sale, everyone on here doesnt want to share them with anyone else!
are they really that good that no one wants to part with them?
if so, maybe ill put the legacy up for sale and resume my search for an SVX, maybe...

We'll probably be selling one of ours - most likely my wife's - when we get a new legacy turbo (hoping it is released this year)

But - we'll be selling it to my dad.

The crazy woman was actually considering a 4 door bimmer instead, but I talked her out of that. BMW's are almost as common as accords down here - we live about 10 minutes from the assembly plant.

Ughh - getting near the time to put a branch or two on the family tree.

You need to remember who you're asking, here.

In a word, yes, they are that good. The SVX is rare not just in terms of numbers, but also in terms of its unique story. To me, it's more than just a car. Cars are normally constrained to all kinds of things - budgets, marketing, etc. Those constraints seem to have been applied to the SVX after the fact, and then it was deemed a failure because it was expensive to produce, had a high sticker price 'for a Subaru' and was clumsily marketed.

But make no mistake - this is one hell of a car. There are plenty of Subaru qualities to it, but if you compare the SVX to the rest of the range, it's clear that the SVX represents what Subaru was capable of producing.

Now, after that, I'll warn you a little. As I'm sure you're aware, the SVX was discontinued in 1997. That's seven years ago, and most SVXs are much older than that. Mine's nearly 11 years old now. They're getting more expensive to maintain and it's not going to get any better. I consider the SVX to be an extremely reliable car, but I can't deny its age. I wouldn't recommend an SVX as a daily driver any more, but then my opinion is far on the conservative side - most here commute in their SVXs daily.

I'm one of those hoarding with more than 1, but I'll happily sell you my '95.

It looks pretty good, and is fairly reliable daily driver.

Unfortunately, it won't solve my hoarding problem- I've got my eyes on another!

There are still lots of them out there! You just have to look a little bit harder.

Matt how could you? That's like selling part of the family! Keep the SVX and buy a legacy turbo .

Bimmers.....<Harry gags>...you don't want a bimmer ...10 minutes from the plant eh? I wonder if you've seen me driving my SVX back and forth from Greer. We have a plant right by the Bimmer plant off of Highway 101 South. Quitting time at the bimmer plant is always a sight.....streets filled with exiting bimmer of all shapes and sizes.

Once I had decided to buy an SVX it took me four months to find one that was in the shape I wanted and the price I could aford. Now these two criteria do not go together very well. But four months of searching the net every day produce an ideal car. They are out there keep looking. Hey I had first dibs on one that had 17,000 miles but when push came to shuve it was out of my league

Saw it at the NAIAS last weekend. Very nice, though SOA decided to keep the hordes out of the booth by NOT letting people in to the car

From what I recall hearing, release date is May '04.

car lot

I saw on on a Subaru lot in Allentown, PA about 2 weeks ago. I dont know the name of the lot though. I was going the 48hr trip with the Impreza guys. Mike might know the dealership. He was in the lead. It was near the Walmart we had to stop at. (STi need tires replaced)

mikecg, It was probably Becker on 222. That's where all 5 of my Subaru's have come from. The only other Subaru dealer in the area is in Bethlehem.

There is only one person that I know of that has 4-5 SVXes.
Most of us have only 2-3.
Please correct me, if I'm wrong; EARL.

hey thanks guys!
im not too concerned with the age of the car or the condition (engine wise) cause i might want a project car sometime in the future (1-2 years from now)
but as of now, im going to be starting a project soon with an 87 toyota supra, so i think that might take a little time to do. but when thats done, i would love to pick up an SVX and redo the whole thing....
the only problem is that after the supra, my wallet might need some time to recouperate, maybe longer if i want to keep tuning the car!
