the car handles like a normal forester, there is no tuned suspension it's the same squishy mushy suspensi8on that is in the base foresters

I'm going to have to see numbers on that to beleive the forester XT is the most aerodynamic subaru currently being sold.

WHAT IS BEING DISCUSSED IS THE NEW '04 US MARKET FORESTER XT.

It contains a detuned version of the BRAND NEW motor found in the '04 USDM STi.

Specs are as follows:

2.5L displacement, DOHC
AVCS variable valve timing
Semi-closed deck block
Sodium filled valves
Direct Ignition, Iridium Plugs
Power: 210hp @ 5600rpm
Torque: 235lb/ft @ 3600rpm

Standing quarter mile: 13.8 seconds.

They had to do significant work to this motor to reduce the performance so that it wouldn't abjectly destroy the WRX in an objective test of speed. I foresee this motor being put in the WRX in the next model year. It is already scheduled for release in both the Baja Turbo and the all-new Legacy Turbo (B4) next year.

I'll keep you guys updated on our project Forester XT... It's sitting right outside my office right now. An STi intercooler and catless up-pipe will be going in in just a few weeks. A JDM Forester STi v2 suspension is also in the works, unless I can get something even better from JIC in the near future.

-Porter

P.S. - This thing is fast!
That answers my questions, Porter. Thanks!

Man I just read the article on the Forester again that is real impressive. I drove the auto at the dealer and I was impressed then but it just keeps getting better. I think I need a new daily driver.

i wouldnt be surprised if a cult of tuners came about and modded the forester to a 10 second car. i would! shouldnt be too difficult.

has anyone tested the H6 3.0 Outback? It should run low 13s to high 12s with a turbo.

thats .29 with hl closed.
open it probably is .30 .31.
cant be much. kinda the same as putting a window down.
makes you wonder. does the drag coef. change with the height of the vehicle?
maybe with hl closed and hydros dropped at high speed it gets .28. someone want to find out?

Part of the fomula for CD is the total frontal area, as in the width X the height of the car, so lowering doesn't really help the CD(as the space under the car isn't in the fomula), but will help to provide downforce at speed.
The way I understand it, anyway

lower car = lower frontal area (lil' bit)

Lower car has less tire exposed to the wind.

Not much, but it DOES change the frontal area.
Figure an 8 inch wide tire, drop the car an inch = 16 square inches less frontal area on the car dropped 1 inch vs. stock.

We're talkin' about holding a 3x5 card out the window here....
*shrugs*
