Glad you are personally OK. and really sorry to hear about your car.

Regards the Corrado, I like them a lot, and will venture my opinion for what it's worth.

Ride quality is a little harsh, very harsh compared to the SVX. Roadholding is little short of brilliant. Cabins tend to be very dark and sombre, OK if you are happy with that.

The VR6 is a brilliant engine. Very narrow angle V6, about 2.9 litres. Good power.

If the car you are looking at is the 2.0 litre supercharged, called the G60, don't touch it!! They are worthless over here. Supercharger is not good quality, tends to burn up, and costly to fix. Regular to see them fitted with new supercharger, just before the car gets sold. Best bet with them is to fit a non-VW supercharger for reliability.

If it's a V6 and checks out, go for it. Probably the best small coupe ever made.

Joe

SLC= VR6
G60= Supercharged 1.8 liter.

I know a bit about both because I almost bought one before I fell in love with the SVX.

Pros:

Handmade in the Karman Ghia coachbuilder place
Look good
Go fast
Pop up rear spoiler (up at 45mph, down at 25 I think)
Handles AWESOME

Cons:

EXPENSIVE. Parts are almost more nutty than SVX parts.
Unreliable. The G60s are ****. The supercharger, or G Ladder charger, dies after about 45,000 miles. They have electrical gremlins, and problems EVERYWHERE. The SLC is better, but not a whole lot... the VR6 in the corrado is pretty much VWs first attmept with the VR6, so its also maintenence prone. While the VR6 was once VWs performance engine, a stock 1.8T will give one a run for its money, and a CHIPPED 1.8 T will destroy a VR6. Basically, the 1.8T is superior in almost everyway. More reliable, more powerful, less weight, better MPG.
VW Owners are DICKHEADS. Let me repeat:

VW OWNERS ARE DICKHEADS. I went to their forum for a few weeks... talk about pretensious assholes. I'd hate to belong to their group.

ANyway, I'd say get your SVX fixed.

I am glad to hear you were not hurt. It is really sad to hear about another one that is very sick! Good luck on the repairs or whatever you decide to do.

Scott, i am sorry to hear about your misfortune, but i am glad that everyone is okay. i got a friend that has a svx for sale, she is pretty trashed on the inside, but the body is in pretty good shape, if you wanted to, or you wanted to go in with another member into buying her for parts, i might be able to help you out.

Just when I'd thought you'd become a decent individual, you post this crap . While he 1.8T is a great engine it was never available in the Corrado, so why do you mention it? My VR6 powered Passat was a solid car that served me exceptionaly well (not maintenance prone). My current 1.8T Passat has been by far the best car I've ever owned. Since I've owned both does this make me a ****HEAD? What a broad-brushed over-generalization. Exactly what I've come to expect from you Rob.

believe it or not, todd, i'm going to go ahead and agree with rob on this one. in my experience, vw owners seem to be self-righteous, egotistical a-holes. pay close attention to the phrase "in my experience." i'm positive that not ALL vw owners are jerks, but in my life, all the VW dudes i've met were real tools. now on the flip side of the spectrum, all the vw GIRLS i've met have been cute, friendly, and basically fun to be around. calling all VW owners jerks is a stereotype, i know, but let's face it.. stereotypes exist for a reason.

and i'm really not too thrilled with the overall reliability of VW's that i've experienced.. i dated a girl from a "VW Family" with a couple of jetta's and a beetle.. her jetta consistently refused to start for no apparent reason, and her mom's jetta chewed through 2 transmissions in 3 years..

anyway, all things considered, it's a good thing that a) you're not a jerk and b) your VW stable has served you well..

Because I've read about a few Corrados that have had 1.8 Turbo engines swapped into them. And about the 'Vw owners are dickheads' comment, I'm going to stand by that. Go over to VW vortex. Mention you're interested in a VW, and you currently drive a ______ (insert any non VW car here). They'll f*cking ream you. What a bunch of pricks. And in real life, I've also met a few VW enthusiasts.... most of them were jerks.

that's tough! sorry, i had to laugh. i can't really understand how VW owners could be so snooty - they are driving the 'Kia' of German cars.

Doesn't matter. As an experiment I came backa few months later and told them I drove a honda accord and I wanted to get a GTI. Same results. VW owners are dicks.

I have a friend who had a Golf GT or something....very nice car visually, drove well, etc.
He just traded the thing on a Civic Si. Loved the VW but got tired of things breaking. Apparently build quality is a concern.

my friends fiancee was crying the blues because she REALLY wanted a new Beetle, despite our trying to convince her otherwise. she ended up getting a used one (2000-2001?, 35k miles), had it less than 3 months, and traded it in. i think the final straw was the gas cap door refusing to open. she doesn't like to talk about VW's anymore.
