Thanks. I wonder if you can use a combo of polish and wax? Is it not true that wax can have a negative affect on your paint job... like when trying to get it off for any kind of paint/body work?

Oh yeah, and where can you get micro fiber towels? I don't often see even REAL 100% cotton towels... and I also would hate to buy them to get ruined quickly by car washing. I think I'll go register on autopia and try and pick up some tips!

Of course you can use polish with wax. Wax is just the outermost layer. Polish has abraisives to clear small scratches and swirls.

I actually just found some cheap MF (microfiber) towels at walmart, come in a pack of 5 for $4.89. They pass the CD test (rub them on a CD to see if they leave micro marring), but they have tags that you have to cut/rip off, and arent as plush as high quality ones. I picked up 2 packs for windows/doorjambs/engine...etc.

My good ones i got from www.pakshak.com, I got the package with 5 16"x16" and 1 25"x36". The 25x36 is a waffle weave MF, made specifically for drying, it works amazing, and wont mar the surface at all.

Oh yeah...some products arent safe for paint/body shops because they leave fillers/oils in the scratches, which paint wont adhere to. Pretty much any competent shop should know that.

Start up a welcome thread on autopia, i'll be the first to say hi!

wax's polish and shiney stuph

Hey guys
the cars look great. Fantastic is more like it.

I have used Zymol for along long time.. It's a great wax and polish as it leaves the finish very smooth. Smells GOOD too.

It could last a bit longer but afterall it's a wax.. The best product I've found is MOthers Clay bar.. Go over the car with the clay bar, give it a good wax.. if you really wanted to be hard core you could put a glaze on but you own't have any arms left afterwards.

For paint that is Oxdized badly, Car quest sales a line of products Duragloss I think, it's been so long since I had to FIX one. I have forgotten.. It's a paint restorer and it will turn a Dead red finish back into some SHINE...

the 1 st owner of the SVX took very good care of it, ONly used Chamois and rarely waxed it.. As she said Less was better.. Of course it was also garage kept so I know that had ALOT to do with how it looked 10 years later.

I will check out the other autopia stuff sounds good.
Now if I could get rid of the paint chips..

svx1999

happy wax'n

I wish there was something that would do for my hood what black shoe polish does for my scuffed shoes.

Cool, maybe I should get some new towels!

I've never like anything I've picked up at WalMart, just leaves fuzz or scratches, or something negative.

I'll have to Zymol over the top of the Zaino next time... only it'll take like 2 days. How exactly do you use a clay bar? Just rub, or roll it? I've always wondered how the filings and dirt that get stuck in it, don't come back to the surface and scratch.

Is that a bet? Maybe I'll just go do it now... and hopefully I can use the same screen name.

Clay is simple to use. Just go get the mothers kit, and use the lubricant it comes with. Cut the bar in half, because if you accidently drop it, you have to throw it out...
Just flatten out the clay, use plenty of lube, and rub. After you do a section, fold it over, and flatten it again.

Some people suggest cutting it in to 1oz peices, and using 1 peice per 1 to 1 1/2 sections. (Hood = 1, Roof = 1, both fenders, both doors) Then use some of the dirty stuff for the front bumper, and if you're feeling courageous, do the wheels and get all the nasty brake dust off!

clay bar

There are a couple of kits..

MOthers makes a kit which has everything you need. Bwana's right just Spray the lube, and rube it down, you will know when the surface is clean as it won't GRAB. or catch on anything.

IT's the best thing since sliced bread.. He's right DOn't drop it.
it's trash if you do. It would be like rubbing sand and grit into your paint. the bar is not big so cutting it in pieces is not a bad idea, I just doa section and fold it over into it's self.

then folow with wax, you'll notice it doesn't take as much wax to cover the car or it's easier to apply cause the surface is fairly clean and smooth....

WARNING

Do not use 'bluemagic' leather cream conditioning wipes. THey're in a little plastic can so you can condition your leahter on the go.

OH MAN. They screwed up my steering wheel, it now has brown spots all over it, ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!! I also put it on my seats, and it made EVERYTHING tacky. I followed the directions. I buffed. Waited 15 minutes. THen tried to buff off. YEAH RIGHT. I may as well have sprayed my interior with hair spray.

AVOID THIS PRODUCT AT ALL COSTS!
