brake band symptoms?

i converted my svx to a 5spd cause what i assumed was the hiclutch was gone in the automatic, when i took the automatic apart today and the brake band just popped right out so i'm wondering if that would be the cause of 3rd and 4th gear not working?

Re: brake band symptoms?

It's the brake band in conjunction with the high clutch that causes you to lose 3rd and 4th gears...

Re: brake band symptoms?

ah ok, so i think what happened for me is that the brakeband was wearing off which is why i had 3rd and sometimes 4th, then lost 4th and then lost 3rd

Sounds just like my transmission problem too.

The brake band only gives 2nd and 4th. The 3rd 4th gear fail, is only the high clutch. A low line pressure in 4th ( low speed, light throttle = low line pressure), will destroy both the band and high clutch.

thanks for the clarification if anything this thread will provide some good insight to people diagnosing transmission issues.
