Nothing wrong with these kits as I have used them. As a personal preference, I installed a new OEM timing belt (13028AA120) about $84.00, instead of the one supplied in the kit. I got a credit for the aftermarket belt from my installer. My OEM belt looked perfect after 12 years and 113,000 miles so I went with factory.

.
I thought that you got a credit from your friend, the installer.

Re: Timing Belt Failure

I just bought two Subaru SVX timing belts yesterday,(13028AA120)
one for a customer and one for the shelf,
and the local Subaru garage had them listed in the computer for 119.94,
SubaruParts.com lists it for $109.95, sooo, the $84.00 is no longer possible.
I guess that everything goes up in price eventually.

If they advertise it on the web, they have to honor it. Got this 3 minutes ago...

"Your shop charges $10.00 over list?"

The local Subaru shop charges $10.00 over list!

Its more than an hour round trip to pick up the belt, especially have to wait twenty minutes at the counter for the belt.
EVAN if I faxed the order in and called them ahead of time!

Where does it say that? The only thing I could find on the site regarding pricing was their disclaimer:

"Online Catalog and Accessories Pricing: All prices and availability are subject to change without notice."

Perhaps they have not updated the site since the price went up; perhaps they have a stock of parts they purchased at the lower price -- we don't have the luxury of being able to stockpile parts. Also, you can pull up prices on the site (and place orders) for items that I know are no longer available; the site says it will ship in 4-10 business days, and then after you place the order, they send out an email saying it is no longer available.

You can't always believe everything you read on the internet.......

Something to keep in mind...
Subaru doesn't make timing belts
Gates should do the trick.
Gates does make timing belts

Thank you Keith, finally someone who agrees with me.

Why people just don't wanna listen? Happy with paying extra money?

Re: Timing Belt Failure

+1 on the EG33 non-interference engine. Bought a '92 with a busted timing belt a few years ago, replaced it, and it ran fine. (probably still does, but I don't own it any more.)

I've even gotten lucky a couple of times with cars with interference engines (Hondas) that broke timing belts & ran fine after having them replaced, but it's far less common...
