Re: gas tank questions
yesterday i drove down the pass again, dropping a few thousand feet, drove back up later in the day and put gas in. no problems like that again. i dont think its my fuel pressure regulator since my car is running fine, i would think if its the fuel pressure it wouldnt be running right. no codes either except for my usual one from my speedo. im thinking it might have been caused my the excessive heat that day. a mixture of driving down 2k feet, driving up 2k feet, and also the fact that the temp difference was nearly 20 to 30 degrees, from being in the mid 60's to 70's here, then being in the 90's down there. i will keep an eye on it and see if it does it again, but it hasnt since then.
ill just monitor it and see if i see any other things like that. i will check the hoses like mike suggested, as i have had problems with my hoses in the past, maybe my repair job wasnt thorough.

Re: gas tank questions
all the fuel pressure regulator does is control flow to the return line to adjust fuel pressure under different engine loads. The fuel pump actually builds the pressure. You can have a problem with your regulator and not have drive ability issues

Re: gas tank questions
so what is the easiest way to check the flow? do i just unhook a gas line and try starting the car, thus making the fuel flow? if not, what should i do?

Re: gas tank questions
use an in-line pressure tester to monitor the fuel pressure

Re: gas tank questions
Does anyone know where exactly this "fuel pressure regulator" line is located? I found a short black rubber (vacuum?) hose with about a 90 degree bend, approximately 6-8 inches long with plastic fittings in my belly pan on the right (passenger) side after having some work done on my a/c system...
Have a picture of it available but I'm not good at posting pictures. My only symptom was the low fuel warning light coming on when I know for a fact I had at least a 1/4 tank left: when I stopped and added gas (just in case) the fuel gauge showed an appropriate rise (added 8 gal and it moved up about 1/2 tank to a 3/4th reading. And the light went off. This was yesterday, about 11,875 miles into a 12K trip! A exploded diagram or picture of the location would help me totally! Cheers!

Re: gas tank questions
the fuel pressure regulator has a small rubber hose on above cyl 5 at the back of the manifold ,it has the job of controlling pressure in the fuel rails not the tank ,you must have a blocked vent ,as for vapor lock check you cpc soleniod ,if it stays open and you shut the car down it can be hard to restart

Re: gas tank questions
Huck369 correctly identified my "mystery" hose as being the drain from the carbon cannister to the frame: the a/c guy must have knocked it off and refrained from replacing it... Just another one of his multiple screw-ups.
So, if the low fuel light went on ONCE when the tank was really 1/4th full, then went off as soon as I added some gas with no problems for a restart, does it follow that I really don't have a fuel tank/regulator/etc. problem? Thanks for the prompt reply to the hose question, BTW! Cheers!
